@Korina any chance y'all are moving forward with this? I travel internationally a lot and it would be convenient to glance at the widget rather than open the app and navigate the menu to reach Satellite. It would also be nice for a default option to open the app in satellite

Widget location on Android 12posted in Bug Reports
Location does not continue to use GPS location on Android 12, SP1A.210812.015, on Pixel 5 (GoogleFi VPN) in the widget. At some point it defaults to the VPN location or sticks to the last location when the app was open.
Note: This issue was consistent throughout the beta testing of Android 12. GPS location is selected as primary in settings. Widget finds location with a refresh on the widget. This happens with all widgets and the location variation is the same between all widget
