    • Hurricane tracker improvement

      Hi,
      I'd like to say that I love the constant improvements to the app. It just keeps getting better and better. 🙏

      There are a couple of things I thought could make it even better.

      The first is that when you open the hurricane tracker that the view would be zoomed to a level that includes your currently selected location. That way you can easily see how it relates to you without excessive zooming out and trying to find where it is. Maybe then add a quick way to zoom into the view that opens now.

      Also, I've posted before, but I'd still love to see a visual graph instead of a list of numbers for the tides. After using visual graphs in my other dedicated tide apps over the years, I just can't get the same feel of the data by looking at a list of numbers. Windy has always been a very visual app, and I hope you'll consider applying that same design philosophy to your tide data.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Widget problems

      Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
      Widgets no longer auto-update after latest Android update. Manual updating works fine.

      Checked location permissions and there is no option for "Allow all the time", so I have it set with the most unrestricted setting which is "Allow only while using the app"

      Data usage and battery settings are completely unrestricted.

      I figured Android made some change that broke the app, but I couldn't find any information about it. Is there anything else I should try, or is this something you are aware of?

      Thanks!

      @ryansund
      I use a widget on a fishing report I manage that sounds like exactly what you are after.
      https://fishingreport.friscorodandgun.com/
      You can drag the circle along the graph to to see exact times and wave heights.

      I've asked before for a graph style tide graph but it never got much traction. It's hard to understand as their wind graph is the best in the business so I know they understand the importance of a visual graph vs printed data. Hopefully more people will chime in.

      Cheers

      @idefix37

      "There is no reason to keep ‘feet’ as first unit as there are very few countries using it for tides.

      I would think amount of users would be more important the amount of countries in that respect. What I don't understand is why it just can't be set as a preference in settings like most other units? Then everybody wins. Right?

    • RE: Tide Forecast on Windy

      This is a couple years after my first post to this thread and I still find myself using other apps to check the tides. (Ones with graphs) First of all it's quicker unless I keep my tides layer active, and it's just easier to read.

      You can absolutely discern the information you need from how the information is presented in Windy, but it's so much easier to consume and see the entire picture when it's plotted over time and height. You can quickly spot aberrations at a glance instead of having to read text. One of the very best things about Windy is the colored wind bar/graph. I only wish the same could be applied to other data as well.

      It could be one of the "Display as:" options that launch other graphs that Windy already uses. (Wave, WInd, Meteor., etc...)

    • Percip/Temp Widget

      I keep 3 Windy widgets on my home screen, but I still have to use another app to get a clear view of the temperature and precipitation trends. No matter how hard I try to read the little cloud and rain droplet icons, my mind doesn't lock in the same way it does with a graph.

      The winds are graphed by colors so you can instantly notice the subtle changes and trends, but you don't get the same precision by looking at icons that you would with a graph. I realize that the app is called Windy for a reason, but I don't see why it couldn't highlight other data as well in optional widgets. I would certainly love to only keep a single weather app. The information is in there already, just not in an easy accessible way.

      Thanks as always for the great app, and your consideration.

    • Radar Widget Opens Radar in App

      I would love to see an option for widgets to open the app to the view you want. (ie...the radar widget opens to weather radar view in the app)

      I live in a hostile weather area and keep 3 windy widgets on my home screen. One of those widgets is the radar view, but I hate having to navigate around in the app to bring up the full view in the app. It would be extremely handy to be able to tell each widget what view to open inside the app so people can get to the information they need quickly.

      Thanks for your consideration.

    • RE: Tide Forecast on Windy

      Was directed here from another post.

      I am trying to find a quicker way to get my local/closest tide data without having to zoom way in on my android device. There are a lot of tide stations near me and I have pinch zoom a bunch just to get to the correct data. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I wish there was a button somewhere when you have the tide layer on that would just pop up the data for the station closest to your location. I'm hoping this is just user error.

    • Quick way to get tide info.

      I might be missing something, but the only way I can find to get tide info is to zoom way in and pick the station.

      If so, I'd like to request a button somewhere that gives you the tide info from the closest station to your point on the map. Assuming of course that you have the tide layer turned on.

    • Sea Temp Units

      I can't seem to find a setting to have sea temp in Fahrenheit when you select a point on the map. The arbitrary points in the water show correctly, but not the point you select.

    • RE: Low/high tide

      I thought it was free through NOAA, but not sure how that is handled commercially.

      I know you can get free tide data with a personal api key on wunderground, but that may be cumbersome to have users signing up for it and entering their key in the app.

      If no one comes up with a better solution, I would suggest a paid plugin/addon option. I would be happy to pay for that or even donate for the app as it is. I still can't believe this app is free so maybe you don't ever want to make it commercial?

      Something to consider though...
      In 2010, 123.3 million people, or 39 percent of the nation’s population lived in counties directly on the shoreline.

      Tide data could really help a lot of people. Wish I could be more helpful with ideas to implement it.

    • RE: Propose a NEW LAYER / FEATURE You'd like on Windy

      @meteo-gr

      Thanks for the info! Still learning the app and completely missed the sea temp, which makes me wonder if I'm missing something with the "wind, waves, swell" map you posted. I see it gives current conditions of wave height (and future predictions), but is there any place it shows actual tide times?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Propose a NEW LAYER / FEATURE You'd like on Windy

      Tide chart and water temp.

      Living on the Outer Banks requires a keen interest in the weather. Where I live I get flooded many times per year so I'm always flipping through many weather apps to get all the information needed to get the complete picture. This app is fairy new to me and I love it so far, but coastal communities really need tide and water temp data to be fully informed.

      I set up an alert for the particular wind direction and strength that affects me, but being able to add a tide state would make it much more accurate. Water temp is less important, but is yet another stat I need another app for. Not sure if tide information would work as a layer, but being able to look it up in the app would be awesome.

      Lastly, in the android app I'd love to see a true graph style weather outlook widget. I do like the detailed 4x2 widget, but I just can't read the tiny numbers when it doesn't contrast with the background colors. A graph is just so much easier to digest quickly. I still keep my weatherunderground 2x2 widget (with chart) on my home screen for quick weather glances, I just wish it had an added wind graph line for strength and arrows at the bottom like your widget, and it would be almost perfect. So for now I keep your widget, the Wunderground widget, and the androtide widget to get my complete picture at a glance. For further detailed information I open your app. It's not even close.

      Thanks for the great app and site!
