    • RE: Windy radar widget doesn't refresh

      @korina Many thanks! You solved it :)

      And apologies: I should have checked that first. I was sure I had already done that, but I was wrong. Or perhaps the setting got lost during a phone upgrade because Google doesn't know how to copy settings during phone upgrades? That actually seems likely... Is it possible/desirable for the widget to check for this permission and remind fools like me that we have to fix stuff?

      Fair winds!

    • Windy radar widget doesn't refresh

      I'm using the latest Android on a pixel 6, but I believe this issue has been ongoing for some time.

      I liked having a widget that was always current— I've had those in the past, but they are just not as feature-rich as Windy. However, this widget requires specific instruction before it will update. And if I change location it requires opening the windy app. Can either of these two updates be done automatically by the widget? Is this my failure to set a setting correctly, a feature that doesn't exist, or a bug?

      Many thanks! I love the app :)

    • Windy android widget still gets location wrong

      Re: Widget location bug

      As described above, and also still happening on a Google pixel 2 XL with the November 2020 Android 11 security update (the last update available for this older phone). I have both the windy animation and the meteogram desktop widgets. The latter gets my location correctly. The former does not. if I manually update the windy widget, it gets location correctly. But if it updates itself in the background it appears to use the IP address of my proxy server (this is a guess. I don't actually know where my proxy server is, but it jumps around between major cities where I think project fi might have proxy servers.) The only workaround I have found is to manually set my location in the preferences. And then of course I have to update that when I travel. At least I haven't been traveling much recently :}

    • RE: Widget location bug

      This also happens on a Pixel 3 XL running Android 11. I've cleared the cache on data and uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, to no avail. I'm running project Fi, which routes all my traffic through a VPN. My guess is that while the app itself is set to get my position through GPS, the widget keeps reverting to the IP address of the proxy server.
