Any coast is troublesome to forecast for, and with the highlands and interesting terrain it makes it even more difficult to calculate what the atmosphere is up to. Your best bet is radar for current conditions and a high resolution model for forecast, like HRDPS or HRRR. @csedne are you saying radar shows you significant returns indicating precipitation over you and yet it's sunny? If so, I'd email ECCC and ask for an explanation.

However, weather models—particularly medium-resolution ones—cannot accurately predict exactly where these storms will occur. The best approach is to consult the radar layer, which shows real-time precipitation, and extrapolate its movement over the coming hour. It is also useful to check the various models available for your region; there are 6 in your area.
