HOW DOES THE SNOW depth and density verify with observations?

    • Total Snow accumulation forecasts

How accurate are the ECMWF total new snow forecasts? at 3 days? 10days? Has anyone evaluated these. I find them fascinating, with maximum I have seen at 543 cm in 10 days on the SE mountains of Greenland. The Andes also have been collecting 2-3 meters of snow in many of these forecasts from June to December. If these are valid, then perhaps we are rebuilding the glaciers?? I watch these forecasts every day. These maximum amounts are also quite sensitive to elevations and appear below the resolution of a 9 km dx model.

    • Snow depth and density in the ECMWF model?

Snow depth and density in the ECMWF model? How is this computed? It seems very sensitive to elevations below the 9 km model resolution.

Re: Testers wanted: Weather radar USA!
Looks good with nice time /date info. Would be nice to see the dBZ on your cursor and the radar estimate of QPE / rain rate, etc mm/hr. Hurricane HARVEY is a great test release for you. We should get many valuable comments. Can you superimpose radar QPE map with model QPF for verification?

    • RE: Windytv 10 Public Preview

@blurspot AS A meteorologist I agree that the global spherical coordinate projection is very useful and provides a handy way to visualize the airflow in proper perspective. When looking at the general circulation the N Polar view is great. It also shows the recent warm advection across the Arctic quite dramatically. I think it useful to have the option to switch from Mercator to spherical projections. Windy TV is very powerful and useful. Keep up the great work. I like the NAM5km model for the US. It has the detailed airflow over mountains needed to capture precipitation in the Western US.
