    • Enable/Disable Model Interpolation

      Hello,
A fairly strange request to be sure, but I think it could be informative to have a tickbox to disable the interpolation of the models (temperature, wind fields etc.) - similar to how there is the "Smooth Satellite Animation" button for enabling/disabling it.

Especially for the high resolutions now, having no interpolation would show how fine the grid boxes really are, and could inform users a bit on the effects of the interpolation (assuming it's non-linear right now?).

I think me requesting this feature stems from the desire to become more familiar with how the original data looks like on the grid.

Also, for the really fine ones like AROME 1.3km, the map zoom could definitely be upgraded so that it does not switch to the OpenStreetMap just as quickly/early as it does now.

    • Idea for Wind visualisation

Looking at the wind map and being able to customise it is really cool, however, this 'Speed' slider gave me an idea:
      40268701-6e85-4c76-9e98-0e35e5db5b9d-image.png

What if the speed were not applied to ALL wind vectors, but some areas would move faster than others depending on the REAL wind speed at the location at the time? This would provide really quick and intuitive visualisation to see what the wind is like worldwide (and doesn't seem that far-fetched of an idea to implement programmatically, at least I hope haha

This can always be an extra feature so that users who prefer this, could keep it. I think the best way to visualise wind speed is with wind speed, as the colour map does not provide such quick intuitive idea!

    • Change speed of animation?

Hello, I have just upgraded to premium, now getting hourly forecasts, however, the animation (when I click the play button at the bottom) is so so very slow! It would be great to be able to adjust the speed, since hourly data means more animation points, therefore it could definitely be played faster and still get a smooth animation.

Right now it's about 1 frame per second (1 hour per second), and since the weather changes are quite gradual, 10 hours (frames) per second would be perfect or so.

If such speeds cannot be done straight away, could do with first loading and caching the data (like for the satellite cloud view) and then playing the animation in real time after it's been cached.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Enable/Disable Model Interpolation

@idefix37 exactly, thank you for adding more details to my original points! From the implementation point of view, this sort of 'blocky' view could be achieved by the "nearest-neighbour interpolation". The main point of having it would be to toggle between the interpolated and blocky, and understanding the underlying original grid size - especially when comparing it to city-scales! The fine resolution grids, such as the one at 1.3km scale, start to actually resolve city-scale features! It would be really interesting to see how those original grids relate to the cities.

    • Cloud Thickness (approx.)

Hello, I asked about displaying optical cloud thickness some time in the last month, but I also think an approximate cloud thickness would be helpful too - taking cloud top height and subtracting it from cloud base height. Of course, it would not be the total thickness, as we can have just air in the middle of several cloud layers, but I would prefer looking at that one value, instead of switching from base height to top height and calculating it myself, and that would be quite trivial to implement.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Cloud Optical Thickness sometime?

@Korina Thank you! Also, in the Satellite view, when it goes to nighttime, the less optically thick clouds can haaaaardly be seen (so it looks at times that the sky is clear, when in fact it is not) - could the cloud opacity be tweaked a bit, such that it would be easier to tell if there is some cloud versus none? Thanks again!

just wanted to ask whether there are plans in the future to display cloud optical thickness. Thanks!

    • Idea for another Base Map

Hello, I thought having a high resolution elevation base layer would be very useful (for example in Switzerland where cities are in between mountain peaks the height can vary a lot)
Something similar to this, but without the changing scale colours would be amazing:

    • Usage of Windy Map Tiles

      Hello,
I would like to know whether it is okay to use the Map Tiles of windy for own purposes.
What I mean is defining the Url Template Imagery Provider as following: 'https://tiles.windy.com/tiles/v9.0/darkmap') + '/{z}/{x}/{y}.png'

is it free for public use, or are there limitations/copyright?

    • RE: Idea for Wind visualisation

      @johnckealy @idefix37
Good points made here, thank you.
New idea: with the current scale, it would be good to explain the length of the vector, which is currently either 'Short' or 'Long', but instead it could be expressed by the distance a particle travels in 'Short = 30 minutes', 'Long = 5 hours'.

So if there's barely any wind, setting it to display the length it travels in 5 hours would still be a short line, which is exactly the same as now, but would give better intuition for me to understand the strength of the wind with real life measures (it could go like "oh, in 5 hours a particle in this location is about to move from Oxford to London, takes less time to drive there by car, so the wind is pretty weak").

      What do you think?
