    • Grey maps / WebGL errors on iPhone / iPad with iOS / iPadOS 18.7.2 - update

      Fellow Windy addict here 😊

If you are experiencing grey maps (eg colour overlay missing) and/or WebGL errors AND you are running iPhone / iPad with iOS / iPadOS 18.7.2 then you need to update iOS / iPadOS to a newer build.

One workaround is to upgrade your device to iOS / iPadOS 26 but for many this is not desirable ... so please read on.

How to check iOS / iPadOS build? Verify build in Settings / General / About / iOS Version

      • iOS 18.7.1 & earlier - Windy app works as expected
      • iOS 18.7.2 (22H123) - Windy app not working (grey maps and/or WebGL errors)
      • iOS 18.7.2 (22H124) - Windy app works as expected

If you have the problematic 18.7.2 (22H123) build then check for updated release of iOS / iPadOS 18.7.2 under Settings / General / Software Update. In some cases you may need to restart your device to see the update.

NB for those on the iOS 18 Beta release train, you need to reset the Beta Updates to Off (under Settings / General / Software Update) for the corrected 18.7.2 (22H124) update to become visible.

Tested with latest Windy app v47.020122 from App Store

Finally there is an assumption that the iOS / iPadOS 18.7.2 (22H124) build has been globally released to all iPhone / iPad devices. This may be wrong - please file feedback with Apple if you are unable to update.

    • RE: Updated iOS now getting WebGL errors

Have filed feedback (FB20873873) with Apple in relation to this issue. If possible I'd suggest others do the same.

    • RE: iOS WebGL Error on Radar Overlay

@Suty The iOS version alone is not enough information ... the release build number 22Hxxx is important:

      • iOS 18.7.1 & earlier - Windy app works as expected
      • iOS 18.7.2 RC (22H123) - Windy app not working (WebGL errors)
      • iOS 18.7.2 (22H124) - Windy app works as expected

Build number can be found in Settings / General / About / iOS Version

Lastly, for those on the iOS 18 Public Beta release train, you need to reset the Beta Updates to Off (under Settings / General / Software Update) for the corrected 18.7.2 (22H124) update to become visible.

    • RE: Updated iOS now getting WebGL errors

Also confirmed on iPhone 13 mini running iOS 18.7.2 RC (22H123)
Same behaviour in both Windy app v47.010417 & v47.020121

@grinead It appears to be a regression with iOS 18.7.2 RC. A few of us have provided feedback to Apple but no feedback so far.

    • RE: Updated iOS now getting WebGL errors

@nathan96753 Unfortunately iOS 18.7.2 (22H123) is the issue. Restart your phone and then check again for iOS updates (Settings / General / Software Update). If 18.7.2 is visible install it.

If you’re not offered the updated build 22H124 then this would point to an Apple release issue - file feedback with Apple.

    • RE: Grey maps / WebGL errors on iPhone / iPad with iOS / iPadOS 18.7.2 - update

Apple has released iOS 18.7.3 RC (22H217) - the Windy app works as expected.

Tested with latest Windy app v47.2.1 from App Store.

NB currently this iOS release is visible only for those on the iOS 18 Beta release train. Unless you’re a developer or managing a device fleet … Beta releases are not recommended.

Big news for Australian ACCESS-C model users ... this issue now appears to be fixed with v48 release 🎉 both in browser and mobile variants.

And the new mobile app model pin feature is also a great improvement.

      Many thanks!

    • ACCESS-C future data visibility restricted by client browser timezone

Using Windy in Firefox v145 browser (logged into account).
NB Also tried Safari but same behaviour
Looking at wind forecast around Sydney Australia. Browser timezone (AEDT+11).
      Selected "ACCESS-C SY" model.

Attempting to observe 36h forecast but unable to move slider beyond ~15 hours (see image)

      Screenshot 2025-10-21 at 21.08.14.png

It is noted that this behaviour varies according to the client (browser) timezone. Easy to reproduce - when the client timezone is reset to London UK (UTC) instead of Sydney (AEDT+11) then more future data is visible.

Finally the length of future day/time "picker" down the bottom may need some tuning for ACCESS-C. Currently it appears to be set to only 2 days - but clearly 3 days is required when local time is after 12 noon to access 36 hours of future data.

Which build of iOS 18.7.2? Check in Settings / General / About / iOS Version. Should be 22H124 - otherwise you need to update
