@FileasFogg Adding to say I like the idea of an earthquake layer (possibly gray background with lines showing tectonic plate boundaries). Earthquake data could be sourced from USGS, EMSC, or RaspberryShake, be plotted similar to webcams (but with all showing instead of decreasing them to keep the map from being cluttered) and color coded based on size. This is definitely something I would use.
