    • (Tutorial) How to Use Windy.com for Landscape Photography

      Hello everyone!

Important disclaimer: I am a photographer, not a meteorologist.

Despite this, I wrote an article on my blog to share how I use Windy.com to plan my landscape photography activities, hoping it might be helpful to someone else. The disclaimer is related to the fact that there may certainly be technical inaccuracies and jargon mistakes, but I hope it is still understandable and useful.

      Here is the link: https://www.francescogola.net/tutorial/how-to-use-windy-com-for-landscape-photography/

If anyone has comments, suggestions, or corrections, I would be more than happy to hear them!

      Thank you.

    • RE: Grey column in Dev mode

Leraned in the hard way, so I share the info that hopefully will help somebody else.

The column was due to the standard setting of desktopUI: 'rhpane' in pluginConfig.ts
Moving it to 'embedded' fixed the issue

    • Apparent horizon (feature request)

      Hello!
I'm using this fantastic application for photography.

One very useful feature for us would be to know where the apparent horizon is on the map based on our location.

It would involve adding an "Horizon" option in the "Display on map" section that, when activated, shows a circle indicating the apparent horizon calculated based on our GPS location (and possibly altitude derived from the map?). This would allow us to determine if the horizon will be obstructed by clouds at sunrise and sunset.

Ideally, this horizon would be calculated for four points: 1) our position 2) base of low clouds 3) base of mid-level clouds 4) base of high clouds.

I hope (in fact, we hope!) that this feature can be taken into consideration!

      Thank you.

    • (Tutorial) - "Clouds Horizon Distance" plugin for Windy.com for Landscape Photography

      Hi everyone!

For all photography enthusiasts, the new 'Clouds Horizon Distance' plugin has been published on Windy. It’s designed to help photographers determine whether clouds will block the light at sunrise or sunset. I’ve written an article on my blog to explain how it works and provide some examples, hoping it will be useful to you:

      https://www.francescogola.net/tutorial/clouds-horizon-distance-the-plugin-for-windy-com-for-landscape-photography/

As always, if you have suggestions, ideas, or spot any errors that need correcting, let me know!

      Ciao!

    • Plugins on mobiles..

Hello Team, any update on bringing back the plugins on mobile devices?
Is there any technical reason why you don’t want to bring them back or is just not a priority?
I constantly receive requests for having my plugin available as the primary use of it is in the filed, and it’s really a pity telling them it’s not possible and there is no an expected release date :(
      Thank you!

      @rittels thank you so much!

Well, I think I'll wait for the next Windy update so not to submit another plugin update in the meantime.

Thank you so much and looking forward for the update

    • Plugin on tablet issue

      Hello Team and Devs,
I just updated my plugin to be compatible with mobile devices too.

      Plugin name: Clouds Horizon Distance
      Repository: https://github.com/chiotas/clouds-horizon-distance

On the mobile app, it's working great: I used the mobileUI: "small", and it's visualising the info cards I placed below the timeline correctly. Everything is working smoothly and reactively.

However, on the tablet version (iPad), it's not working properly. I see that it's not really responsive (super slow) both loading the plugin and using it, plus it's not loading the mobileui:"small" interface as it's not displaying the info cards below the timeline. (I attach a couple of images here).

Am I missing something for the tablet app version?

      Thank you!

      @ivo EPIC!
But any instructions on how to make them work on mobile?

EDIT: very specific question: how to debug the app version (from a visual point of view)?

    • User input field for custom calculations on the map

      Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a plugin for Windy (Cloud Horizon Distance) and I would like to ask if there’s a way to let the user input a custom value that can then be used for drawing on the map.

In practice, I’d need something like a small input field (or slider) where the user can set an angle in degrees. This value would then be passed to my calculation function, which returns a distance to draw as circles on the map.

Does the Windy API currently support this kind of interactive input (e.g. text box, numeric field, slider)? Or is there any workaround that you would suggest to achieve a similar result?

Thanks a lot for your help,

      Francesco

I see that the Druim a'Starraig doppler is offline.
Is it a planned outage, or is there any other issue?

    • RE: List of Finished Windy Plugins (v42+)

Hello @David-Ryzec-3 , I updated my published plug-in "Clouds Horizon Distance".
      Here the updated link:

      https://windy-plugins.com/1029116/windy-plugin-horizon-distance/0.6.0/plugin.min.js

I have a couple of probably stupid questions:

      • Every time I update it, do you need to update it too in the listed plugins?
      • Who has already installed the plugin needs to remove the old version and reinstall it?

      Thank you!

    • METAR

      Hello guys,
I want to add a new feature to my plugin.

Can the Windy API return me the MEATR of the nearest airport according to my pin position?
I would love to avoid the use of external APIs

      Thank you
