So glad I never paid for this service. They are showing that they will disregard suggestions from subscribers. It's clear that most find this UI distasteful at best and confusing at worst.
A/B testing. Adopt it, or get ready for backlash.

@Canne It's just such a shame that this is now a requirement to have a somewhat useful experience. All just to have a bunch of colourful blobs to get laymen's attention? I just don't get it. It's more work for desktop users and for what?
@Georgemj23 Sadly it's a new trend in UX design. I see it being implemented on many websites lately (Reddit is a great example). Essentially, to cut costs and development time, it is becoming common to cut out the desktop design entirely and just adapt the mobile version no matter what device you're on. As a result, desktop is losing a lot of its functionality.
I'm seeing more and more disregard for screen real estate, which is ironic given the fundamentals of mobile design.
Flow for desktop users appears to be disregarded for the most part as well.
I enjoy my phone, but it is not my preference for navigating detailed information on the internet. It really shouldn't be anyone's preference, given the utility of desktop vs phone through physical interface alone.
I will take the opportunity now to explain why the UI is garbage instead of just complaining:
Everything has been blown up / enlarged. I am on desktop. Please stop wasting screen space. Less really isn't more here.
The previous UI was intuitive. This current one is messy. UI is meant to streamline the user experience. This new UI does the exact opposite. The previous UI, I could find whatever I needed with ease. This current one, I can't even find the usual things I select from intuition.
The new icons displaying each type of map make the whole thing disjointed. I find myself easily overwhelmed when looking at the selection screen.
The new sidebar for the menu takes up way too much space now.
Garbage interface, sadly. This appears to be a trend lately with mobile UI designers. Rather than support two interfaces (desktop and mobile), they'd much rather just support the mobile design.
Screw anyone who wants to use their PC on the modern web anymore, honestly. /s
