    • RE: 1000-500hPa thickness layer

I too would like to see this feature. Obviously the "528dam" thickness line is very important for snow-enthusiasts whereas anything above 564dam thickness-line indicates a heatwave.

    • RE: Feature Request: Add Atmospheric Thickness (1000–500 hPa)

@idefix37 Thank you for that link! I've tried looking for a good Weather information provider for this information especially now that we are approaching autumn/winter. I will probably start using this instead of Windy for the time being.

@WINDY DEVELOPERS... I've searched these forums for similar requests for "Thickness" lines and there is evidence of a lot of interest, Please again consider it!

    • RE: Request to Add 1000-500 hPa Thickness Layer and Temperature Display at 1000 hPa with Geopotential Height

      Yes Please!
This definitely gets my vote as well. During the recent cold-snap over UK and Europe, I found myself switiching away from the Windy app and instead go to directly to the data source:

      ECMWF: https://charts.ecmwf.int/products/medium-thickness-mslp/overview/valid_time?projection=opencharts_europe

For GFS, I go to https://www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/gfs and select Chart Type: "HGT 500-1000"

So please can we have these layers available in Windy.

      Many Thanks

    • RE: Fronts

      Hi @Jari-Sochorová ,

This appears to be the standard response whenever the suggestion of Fronts is raised. To be fair, it doest really need a human meteorologist to identify the frontal zones of warm and cold air masses. Another feature that has been frequently requested is for the display of "500-1000 hPa thickness isolines" which is available from ECMWF. With this data, the location of frontal zones can then be computed.

      From the ECMWF website:
500-1000 hPa thickness is a measure of the mean temperature of a column of the atmosphere between these pressure levels and can be used to distinguish between warm and cold air masses and to indicate frontal zones (i.e. areas of large temperature gradient, where the thickness values are more closely packed together). Roughly, 500-1000 hPa thicknesses below about 528 dam imply air coming from polar regions and thicknesses above 564 dam imply air coming from tropical areas.

    • RE: Feature Request: Add Atmospheric Thickness (1000–500 hPa)

Ive just noticed that the ECMWF chart posted earlier ( https://charts.ecmwf.int/products/medium-thickness-mslp) has an excellent colour-scale where the 528dam line is where the green colours changes to cyan/blue. Also anything above 564dam is dark red. Excellent choice of colour scale. Surely Windy can also display this data in a similar fashion ?

I would also love to see this feature. The data being requested is available on GFS models as displayed here in different coloured lines. The pale blue line represents the 528dam isoline which many weather watchers determine this to be the approximate boundary between rain and snow. Anything below 528dam shows a very cold air mass. The lower the thickness, the colder the air. The pale green line represents a thickness of 564dam which represents very warm air. Please Please Please incorporate these thickness lines on to your maps.

      Many Thanks

    • RE: Isobar lines always on option please

On the subject of Isobars, is it possible to have these lines animated in the 12hour history and 1-hour forecast loops? I can display the isobars on the screen while viewing 12-hour history animation, but the isobars remain static.
