I have more than one color settings for the Satellite layer INFRA+ mode.
Can you provide a easy way to switch between recently applied color settings? So far, the only way is to open up the color palette text, and copy and paste replacement color patellte text. Quite cumbersome.

@Filip_K Thanks for the link. So Australia's BoM does model sea waves. I raised that doubt b/c ACCESS on those two days poorly forecast low clouds over the part of South China Sea within 300km east of the Malay Peninsula during the time of high winds of the northeastern monsoon over vast area of the sea as compared with satellite Visible channel (ECMWF, otoh, got it right). ACCESS had been far more reliable than ECMWF in predicting lower to middle mid altitude relative humidity over the SCS, Karimata Strait, and Strait of Malacca but those days didn't see high sea waves.

@hangInThere You are right that this info about used ECMWF is not correct, if you open certain radiosonde measurement. I will discuss it with colleagues if it is possible to remove it in the future.

On the phone, the Soundings window completely occludes the timeline, so no way to include the forecast datetime in the screenshot, let alone the reference datetime which has to be brought up from the info popup.

On the desktop, the timeline is not occluded by is displayed in the panel to the right along with the active layer (e.g. Wind), but even if you give this panel a width of 7cm the datetime is still occluded by other display items in the layer. What a waste of screenshot real estate just to capture the datetime. And, still the reference time isn't in view. See below. (Here, for radiosonde, of course the reference time is not needed.)

For radiosonde, OTOH, fortunately the datetime is part of the chart title.

It will be good if you just do like for radiosonde, i.e. include the datetimes in the chart title. Shouldn't be more than a 2 minute task.

@hangInThere Can you provide further info about the issue? How did you get this issue? Which browser do you use?

@Ondřej-Šutera Same old same old. Have seen similar response many times to me and others. Sandbagging is the name. The amount of coding required to fix this is too minor to rise to the level of scheduling work load. Any experienced programmer will know it takes no more than 10 minutes (even this is over budgeting) to make the change and another few more to fully test it out. @Filip_K

@hangInThere I already reported this and it will be probably fixed in the next major update. Right now, I am cannot tell you when this update will be planned.

@Ondřej-Šutera It's a come-and-go problem. Right now it doesn't happen. I don't know what triggered it. But it's moot if you put back the altitude value in the wind layer display. Why fix it when it wasn't broke? Hard to understand. And now you guys really end up breaking it.

@hangInThere guarding against old data is not a problem (and is already implemented) but when only old images are available, we cannot get new ones

NOAA has two separate archives: IGRA under NCEI which stores ascent data at least 1 day old, and realtime RAOBS under ESRL which has up-to-date ascent data. Make sure you poke into the latter.

@idefix37 For sure Windy mobile app loads up the latest reported values whenever brought to front from the phone window's background each time. In common usage no app is left occupying the foreground of the phone for long to notice Windy doesn't update the wind/temp labels by itself.

It's a different matter for desktop use altogether. Here, multiple windows are open and active simultaneously. Even some windows may be fully/partially occluded but activities still continue. I have weather radar + satellite images displayed and continually updated all night and they get automatically screenshot to save into files for analysis later in the day.

Your suggestion to show historical positions in markers with time and linked by lines would be very helpful.

I would add a further suggestion that, upon clicking on a ship marker, ALL its historical positions are brought up in markers--without these historical markers, the historical weather measurements in chart become meaningless for ships.

A further suggestion is to reposition the vertical hairline on the chart to the time that correspond to a historical ship marker that has just been left clicked at.

The above would be very helpful where one needs to determine where & when a ship encountered a particularly challenging weather situation, e.g. like what happened in the south of the Strait Of Melaka this morning, with strong winds at 48km/hr. This is essential information to further investigate what weather phenomenon brought this strong wind. I hope Windy R&D team can implement these improvements. The weather data from ships are too crucial to be lost--for the study of adverse weather events at sea one can learn how to better forecast using historical data. See the adverse event in chart below:
