    • RE: I do NOT like the new interface :-(

      @Suty

      Windy has removed significant functionality with the new menu grouping. Previously it was possible to have the list view or chose the cluttered icon view in the layer menu, however now we only have the icon view.

      Previously, I had all of the layer options in the list view on the right hand side of the screen, with similar items nested. Wind Gusts was under Wind. Various air quality options were under Air Quality, etc.

      While I see a number of posts regarding pinning layers to the right hand side of the screen, there are major issues with this. It does not reflect anything like the old layer system.

      1. There are a very limited number of layers that I can pin. I cannot fit all of the layers that I want in the right hand column. Once I add a certain number, the layer names disappear, and the icons are not easily distinguishable from one another without a name. I can hover my mouse over them to display the name, but that means searching for the layer I want by hovering my mouse over each icon in turn.

      If I add even more layers, the UI switches to display the layers across my screen, which then covers the great graphics Windy is known for and quite honestly is a terrible UI and user experience.

      So I must remove most layers, but then going into the cluttered menu to search for the layers I want that I cannot pin, involves several additional steps that were not required previously

      1. Similar layers are no longer nested or even grouped together. Pinning them, Wind is near the top, but Wind Gusts are several layers below, separated by other pinned layers that are unrelated to wind, such as Temperature, Clouds and Waves in my case.

      2. Similar layers in the menu are also not grouped together, which mean I need to search for them. This involves opening the menu and clicking the Display More Layers option.

      3. If I want Wind and Wind Gusts pinned, these take up two spots in the pinned right hand column, rather than being nested. It means I cannot fit in other layers I want quick access to that I had previously with the old nested menu system.

      4. There is no way to reorder the pinned items.

      Since Windy seems insistent going this route, please offer an option to have this new layout, or the previous nested and expert mode options. That way everyone would be happy and Windy could remain a positive user experience, as the new UI is terrible in my opinion.

    • RE: Windy 39 is here. Learn how to masterclass new features

      I’ll share some thoughts below having used version 39 for over a month. For background I have used Windy since 2019 and I have thought that each previous update was an improvement until version 39, which appears to me to be trying to increase visual appeal, while losing some functionality.

      • Gallery view with images of all of the layers is clunky. It takes longer to find the layer I want to view, even with my favourites pinned. It would be great to have the option to opt for the nested menu as found on the web version.

      • Crosshairs: I like the flag as the information I want to see, such as wind speed/direction or temperature, etc is easily visible while also looking at the map. This allowed me to set the timeline running and see the value of the point of interest while also seeing the area trend in colour on the background map. With the cross hairs, the information I want is at the top of the screen, while the timeline is at the bottom, and the map is in the middle. I find that my eyes are constantly shifting between the top, bottom and middle of the screen to pick up the information I want. I miss information with the constant eye movement. I understand that the crosshairs are designed to encompass more functionality than the flag, however could an overlay of the pertinent information (ex. Windspeed and direction, temperature, etc.) be added beside the crosshairs, like a Heads-Up-Display, rather than the bar at the top of the screen?

      • Ability to unlock the crosshairs from the centre of the screen. I understand this was also the case with the previous version of the flag on the mobile app, but it would be great to have a button to unlock the crosshairs and move it to another location on the screen. For example, I am interested in a point of interest, but also want to see the weather along the coast to the west that is heading my way with the weather system. I could unlock the cross hairs, and move them to the right side of the screen to allow me to see more of the map to the west.

      Thanks for taking user feedback into consideration.

    • RE: Windy V40 - What's New

      @Korina

      The loss of landscape orientation on a phone is very disappointing.

      Being able to view the forecast only while in landscape on a phone was very helpful as it allowed more screen space to see the upcoming weather while minimising scrolling.

      In the map view, it allowed the user to orientate the view to see important weather features on the map as required while viewing at higher zoom levels. Weather systems usually move west to east, however with the phone orientation now being stuck in portrait, it means we get a good view to the north and south of us, but we are blocked from seeing east and west. While we can zoom further out, it somewhat defeats the purpose of high resolution forecast models being visualised by Windy in great detail on the map.

      It would be great to bring this feature back, as it is very much missed.

      Thank You

    • RE: From Storm Alerts to Forecasts on Your Garmin: Windy’s Biggest Update Yet

      This is a great update! The weather station widget is very helpful. Thanks to the Windy Team for all of the work put in.

      A suggestion for a future update:

      When viewing a forecast model for a location, the web version of Windy has the time since the model was last updated in the footer, just to the right of the ‘Compare’ button.

      I find this very helpful when comparing forecast models to see which has been updated more recently, right in the forecast itself.

      It would be great to expand this last updated time to the mobile apps in the forecast, as well in the ‘Compare’ forecast view in both mobile and web versions. As Meteoblue doesn’t have a map visualisation, there doesn’t currently appear to be a way to see when it was last updated in the iOS version.

      Kind Regards,

    • RE: Canadian Airport Data not updating

      @Wheats
      I do hope someone is looking into this as you say. Pearson (CYYZ) and a few other airports were last updated just under two hours ago as I type, however the updates have been very sporadic since the morning of April 16.

      WMO information also is not working in Canada with the exception of North Saanich currently. (WMO is also not working in the US).

      Only Personal Weather Stations and Ship are working in Canada.

    • RE: changed interface

      I am on an Apple iPad and use the web version as it allowed access to the different layers without having to take as many actions and press in multiple places, as is required on the App. I prefer this, as the screen is large enough not to need the mobile version.

      I’ve requested the Desktop version in Safari, but am getting the mobile version. I tried the beta test and the web version was working for Safari on my iPad, so I thought this change was not going to impact me.

      I don’t understand why this update was implemented for tablets, as we can use the app if we want the mobile version. Forcing the mobile version on tablet web browsers significantly decreases functionality.

      Please restore the ability for tablets to access the web version on browsers.

      Perhaps a future improvement to the app version would be the option for the user to select either web based or app based format.

    • RE: Garmin Fenix 7 vs. Widget

      I'll add my bug report to yours:

      I had the same thing happen to me with my Fenix 7. Installed the Windy widget on July 6 and it was working fine until July 11. If I tried to click the widget, I received the same screen as you.

      I tried opening both Garmin Connect and Garmin IQ and syncing. Restarting the phone and again opening both Garmin Connect and Garmin IQ and syncing. That didn't help.

      I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the widget which fixed it.

      I’m aware that in the mobile version, the time the forecast was last updated can be found in the menu, and the web version in the ‘i’ icon, however having this information right in the forecast would save several clicks and allow easier comparisons.

      Thanks for your great work!

      Fantastic layer. It is great to get both radar and satellite in the same layer.

      For some constructive feedback, I really like the ability to select the speed of the radar playback in the web browser version of the Radar layer. Faster gives a great quick overview and the ability to watch the loop several times in quick succession, while slower makes it easier to see exactly where the rain passed over.

      It would be great to have the ability in the Radar+ layer. Plus the mobile versions as well.
