    • RE: Setting default forecast model

@Ondřej-Šutera yes, this is the point of the report and I've had the same complaint for years now. We shouldn't have to select the best model for our individual areas EVERY TIME WE OPEN THE APP. Don't say it can't be done because you did it already in the past and then it stopped working again eg if you set the widget to the model you want ie HRRR and then open the app from the widget, the model should STAY on HRRR not keep referring to ECMWF.

Come on guys. This shouldn't be that hard especially when you've done it before. You want premium subscribers (like me) but won't fix an obvious and very annoying problem.

      PLEASE look at this.

    • Regressing....it's 2025 and we STILL can't save a startup model

Why, after all this time, is it still not possible to set the default forecast model that the app opens with? ie ECMWF is useless where I live, and even when the widget is set to something else the app opens with ECMWF. This was fixed at one time...sort of. I remember being able to set the widget to a model and the app would open in the same model when launching via the widget. Now that's broken again.

This is ridiculous (in my opinion). Can someone please explain why this is so hard...especially when so many have been asking for it for years and paying for premium while waiting? Why can't we have an option in the app to open on a particular model just like we have for all the other settings, locations, layers, etc.

While we're at it, why are different models available in the widget that are not in the app and vice versa ie why can I select HRDPS in the app but not in the widget, and why can I select several different models in the widget but not the app eg NEMS, ACCESS, UKV, AROME, etc. This makes absolutely no sense.

After all this time and all the users who have paid for premium for years, this app still feels like a beta that is constantly in flux. Even today I experienced a bug where the ECMWF forecast would simply not switch to hourly even though all the other models were showing hourly no problem. Eventually it corrected itself.

Sorry to rant so hard but I've been on board with Windy for years and I'm still complaining about things that seem like pretty basic and rudimentary, and seeing inconsistent and unexplainable bugs. I can't be the only one.

    • If you want more subs, add default model setting

Subject says it all. This community forum is littered with dozens of posts about this. Why do you continue to ignore this EASY way of getting more paid subscriptions. I'm not buying it until I can set the default to the best model for my area.

I would be willing to bet I'm not alone. Your added subscriber base will MORE than pay for the work to add this feature. Do yourself and us a favour and do it.

      Please. 😊

    • RE: widget models

Amazing addition to the widget! So many of us have been waiting a long time for this so THANK YOU!

What are the chances of getting NAM added to the list of options? I think this, and MeteoBlue, are widely used by those of us who live in areas with very localized weather patterns.

      Thank for considering....

    • HRRR model and widget

Love the new HRRR model....very accurate for my area....however when I set the widget to use it, the app opens with ECMWF instead of HRRR. If I set the widget to ICON, the app opens with ICON.

      Is this by design?

Cool! But tell me....did you get rid of the alert option to make room for the trip planner option in the press and hold menu?

    • RE: Regressing....it's 2025 and we STILL can't save a startup model

@theraser glad it's not just me....and yet no response from the Devs which is especially frustrating when you consider that the app DID open with the same model that the widget was using at one point not that long ago but now it's broken again.

If this is a licensing or data access fee issue then they could just say that and at least we would know the reason and wouldn't feel like we're ignored.

...but if that's the reason why are we paying for premium service if that money isn't being spent on delivering the features we need. I would pay more if that were the reason but I doubt it is, and frankly I'm not sure I'm going to continue paying for an app that I have to change the settings on literally every time I open it.

Anyone else out there frustrated by this? Is everyone indeed using ECMWF?

@petra-pik thank you Petra....but surely you realize this is not what I am referring to?

It's not the default layer I am concerned aboit, it's setting the default MODEL (ie GFS, NAM, etc) that is the feature that seems to most requested here in your forum....and likely to give you an immediate boost in revenue.

Thanks for the speedy response though!

    • Is it normal for model to default to ECMWF every time?

This is a topic that has been discussed many times but I've been away for a bit so I don't know if it's me or the app has changed again.

I use the Android widget. I use HRDPS as the model in the widget. But when I open the app (from the widget) it goes back to ECMWF and I have to change it. This is my only real complaint about the app.

I thought this had been "fixed" a long time ago ie so that the model didn't switch from what was set in the widget...but now I'm not sure.

Anyone care to set me straight?

      Kevin

    • Model selection not consistent. Shiny new version, same old problem

Tired of explaining this in detail so I'll be brief...

      Widget set to HRRR
      Tap widget to open app...
      App opens in ECMWF

Happens even if app is already running in the background.

It used to work properly, then it didn't, and multiple reports from multiple users are ignored.

Cancelling my sub if it doesn't get fixed soon. Great app, but ECMWF is useless for me.

    • Not looking good...

I'm seeing a lot of people here talking about cancelling Premium as well as a lot of complaints about the same old issues, including my favourite annoyance which is the forecast model not staying the same as the widget when opening the app from the widget....WHICH WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL IT WASN'T.

The tone of feedback has definitely changed over the years. I hope the devs pay attention and address these frustrations before the app loses too much more support.

    • RE: HRRR model and widget

@MarkNagy we're now on v38 and it's still behaving the same way.
This worked properly at one point but then reverted back to defaulting to ECMWF every time I open the app even from the widget.

It makes the app very clunky to use.

    • App not loading correct model from widget

This problem was fixed once but now it's back again. Widget is set to use HRRR but when you tap the widget to open the app, the app opens with ECMWF.
This issue was resolved several weeks/months ago but now it's reverted. Frustrating.

    • RE: Widget forecast doesn't match app forecast

@hulakai update: I changed the location for the widget to my home location instead of "current location" and then the forecast matched the app. Then I changed the widget back to "current location" and it still matches.
I refreshed the widget several times before all this but it didn't correct itself until I cycled the location setting.
So it appears that even though the location showed as being correct in the widget, it wasn't updating.

    • Widget forecast doesn't match app forecast

I noticed today that the widget wasn't accurate which is odd. So I open the app and the forecast inside the app was bang on. I tried refreshing the widget and even re-adding it but the widget was still wrong.

This is all using the HRRR model which is amazingly accurate in my area.
