    • RE: Doubt and samples

So I've been interested in meteorology and weather for some time now and now I'm Iearning about weather stations and data they're reporting. As most of you here probably know, there are two types of weather reports: METAR and SYNOP. The thing is, METAR reports have often higher temperatures than SYNOP. Official weather data seems always to rely on SYNOP readings, even though from what I've read METAR is considered to be the most accurate. Why is it like that ? Which data is more reliable ?

    • Aircraft ditching into swells and sea!!

This is a fantastic app. As an airline pilot that flies over water routes, I have a few questions.

How do I interpret the swells direction? When an aircraft ditches into the water we plan to plan a direction, sometimes at night. If wind speed is less than 25 knots we plan to ditch parallel to the primary swell and down the secondary swell. When you show both on the app I am unsure how to interpret. As wind speed increases we shift to flying more into the headwind but still have to factor the swells.

Thanks for assistance in using your app.

    • New Property in unfamiliar weather environment.

Hello all and thanks, in advance for your help on this matter.

I have just bought a new piece of property in western Wyoming where we are going to build a cabin etc. I have family in the area and we visit frequently but it is about 20 miles away and in a totally different environment. I am told that the winter snow falls differ from 1 to 4 feet. the new property is lower and gets caught in the inversion patterns that are common in the west. i know it has its own little micro climate as it is situated in a bowl.

My question to you all is: Based on the lack of knowledge of the area and that how and what to build depends largely on the environment that you are protecting yourself from; what is the best stand alone weather station that can be left for 30 to 90 days at a time with out hard power that will track environmental conditions best for under $300?
