    • Suggestion: tide based alerts!

Thanks to the Windy team for tide forecasts. The world's best weather forecasting tool just keeps getting better.

The ability to schedule alerts based on certain tide parameters would be HUGE for the UK. There are many spots where kitesurfing launches are only accessible a few hours either side of low or high tide.

      Thank you windy team!

    • Integrating coastalmonitoring.org api for live weather stations (and maybe more!)

HI all. I was surprised to find out about coastalmonitoring.org

recently in the UK. They have a lot of great coastal wind, tide and wave stations which I've never known about, or heard anyone else mention.

I'd love to integrate their stations via their api (https://www.coastalmonitoring.org/ccoresources/api/)

However, this one is probably above my technical level.

      Does anyone else fancy it?

    • No tool for adding kite spots to database?

HI all. As someone who uses windy for a few different sports, I'm disappointed to see that windy's database of kite spots specifically is locked down, and cannot be added too, or downloaded from.

This is in contrast to both paragliding and surfing, which take data from a 3rd party website with publicly available data and an API that can be pulled from.

If windy wants to be protective of it's data, I understand. However, it seems very likely to me that the data came from a pre-existing database. It seems a bit odd to scrape the data from a third party, and then lock it down. Now users cannot either add their own spots, or download data to use in their own applications.

If at least a tool could be provided so that users could add information about their local spots, that would be a good start!

This came up because I realized there's not a single kite spot for the WHOLE of Ireland, and we have users in our England-based kite group chats looking for info for anyone who has been, because they're unable to find any spot information.

      Thanks

    • Smooth Scrolling breaks windy.com... devs, please add SmoothWheelZoom plugin! 🥰

Hi all. I switched to a new mouse with 'smooth scrolling', which is a really nice feature.

unfortunately it appears smooth scrolling is incompatible with windy.com at the moment, a single scroll movement zooms me in and out hugely as a result!

Devs, please check out This plugin for leaflet to enable smooth scrolling!

It would be a huge upgrade to the site for smooth scroll users.

      Thanks!

    • Radar frame interpolation in playback as well as forecast!

So I only found out today that you can playback the radar weather forecast, and when you do, it has a really really nice smooth playback animation. I'm guessing this is because the forecast rain movement is continuously generated rather than read at intervals like past radar data.

Anyway, I think it would be a huge improvement to the radar if the past data was interpolated for smooth playback as well! Perhaps this would be trivial for the devs to enable?

      Fingers crossed!

    • RE: Alerts API access via Python

Oh, to clarify, I know you could do something like this via the actual weather API, but I'm looking specifically to manage it through the users' favourite sites in Windy. Thanks.

    • Alerts API access via Python

Hi all, I'm interested in making a wall clock that displays when I have favourable conditions for kiting and paragliding at my favourite spots. Does anyone know if its possible to receive alerts via an API to be interpreted through a python script? I'm currently considering doing it via email alerts, but that would be a bit messy.

      Thanks all.

    • First suggestion post: Small wind direction indicators on favourites overview.

Hi all. The sites I frequent for paragliding are quite far apart, and often have varying wind directions, so it would be very useful to see the wind direction quickly for every favourite site, without having to individually click on them.

I have mocked up a quick image showing how this could be done. The arrows are quite small, but this could possibly be remedied by putting the arrows above or below the wind strength bar, or enlarging the bar.

and heres one with the expanded wind strength bar
