    • RE: Would you like to receive Windy Alerts as push notifications to your mobile device?

      @ivo said in Would you like to receive Windy Alerts as push notifications to your mobile device?:

      Dear users

      We prepare slight overhaul of 2 years old "Windy Alerts" feature. If you have any ideas, or thoughts, now is the time to let us know.

      And btw, would you like to receive Windy Alerts as push notifications to your mobile device?

      Ivo

      Yes, definitely this option would be nice to have.

      And I also think that it would be extremely useful to also be able to have a Windy Alert Notification for CAP Alerts / Weather Warnings too.

      In fact I wrote a post about it (together with some other suggestions for the Weather Warnings Layer) in April 2019:

      https://community.windy.com/topic/8268/windy-alert-notification-for-cap-alerts-weather-warnings

      So if for example there is a flood warning issued (or sudden snow/ice - winter is coming) then the user will receive a push notification to instantly warn them about these conditions.

      I think this is a huge safety feature.

      THANKS :)

      @ivo

      Also a common request here from the Community is the ability to be be to set multiple alerts for the same location.

    • How To Use The "Compare" Feature

      Windy has a feature called "Compare'.

      This feature enables you to Compare all of the available Forecast Models to each other during the next few days.

      This feature works with all of the Models that Windy uses (location dependant): ECMWF, GFS, NEMS, ICON-EU, AROME, NAM and enables the user to Compare the Forecast across all of the available Models to try and understand what pattern has the highest likelihood of occuring (eg: 3 models forecast Rain, 1 model doesn't)

      To use this feature:

      • Open Windy to the desired location, eg: Prague, CZH
        https://www.windy.com/50.067/14.466?rain,48.716,14.817,7,m:e2Bagzh
      • Click on the Map at your chosen location to show the Forecast
        (or just open directly from Windy Favourites or Browser URL)
      • I also selected the Rain Layer for this example, but it's not essential
      • Select Compare at bottom centre
      • All available Models will now be displayed enabling them to be easily Compared by choosing a period in the Timeline and viewing the weather conditions from each Model in a vertical orientation

    • RE: Premium subscribers will get premium support

      Just a note to our international Windy users (especially those from native english speaking countries) regarding the 'girls' wording in earlier posts:

      Please bear in mind that Windy was founded and is based in Prague, Czech Republic, and the Founder and most of the Team (and many of the Moderators as well) speak english as a second language, just like many of the Windy users here too.

      Therefore sometimes the small nuances of words and language used may not always carry the same weight or depth of meaning (either positive or negative) as they might do in other languages, cultures, or countries.

      As was mentioned, at this time the main support is indeed provided by two female Team members, @Korina and @petra-pik

      Thank you for your understanding and your support of Windy and the Windy Team :)

    • How To Use The "Observation vs Forecast" Feature

      Windy has a feature called "Observation vs Forecast" which was announced here in Jan 2019:
      https://community.windy.com/topic/75...orecast?page=1

      This feature enables you to compare what the "Weather Station Observed" with what the various "Forecast Models Predicted" during the last few days.

      This feature works with all of the Models that Windy uses (location dependant): ECMWF, GFS, NEMS, ICON-EU, AROME, NAM and enables the user to check how often the Forecast Models 'got it right'.

      To use this feature:

      • Open Windy to the desired location, eg:
        https://www.windy.com/-Outdoor-map-map?map,29.237,-62.540,5
      • Select Reported Wind at bottom right to display all Weather Stations
        (I also used the Outdoor Map Layer for clarity, but it's not essential)
      • Select the Weather Station, eg: I chose Bermuda Airport
      • Select the Forecast Model, at bottom left
      • Select the desired period in the Timeline
      • The grey floating box displays the Observation vs Forecast
        (and some basic colour coding to indicate Right / Ok / Wrong)

    • RE: And yes, we can...

      A general reminder for all users:

      Windy does not create any forecast data but instead only visualises forecast and actual data received from various third party providers.

      The source of the data is displayed on Windy.com and users are welcome to check and verify the source data for themselves.

      ALSO, let's be sure to keep this topic polite and respectful please.

      AND, whilst this topic does have a political component (one of many components regarding this topic) posts focused solely on political matters, conspiracy theories, and/or personal attacks against other users are NOT acceptable.

      Thank you :)

      can you not just let me choose the aspects i want?? do i really have to see the sea swell and no2 and all the rest?? let me set the defaults that interest PLEASE!!

      The Layer Menu is completely customisable. You can turn On the Layers that interest you, and turn off the Layers that don't.

      @onetrev said in New Zealand radar service:

      I would say from checking out the MetService, Windy and Rainviewer that indeed they do look pretty similar.

      Are you sure? Please double check my screenshots on page 1. Yes the general outline is similar but the definition is not even close.

      It's not meant to be like that. if you zoom out and look at another country you can make a better comparison to how it should look.

      It seems like there won't be much rain to see on the radar over the weekend but from Monday it should be raining again - good for testing if not for the beach :)

      @idefix37

      Yes, I took the quote and the word "interference" from Korina's post in the other thread but I assumed it meant a problem with the connection to receive the radar data? (and that's what it looks like).

      We had clear skies for a couple of weeks but we have rain for a few days this week so that's why I'm checking on it.

      The same problem still seems to exist today.

      Also I think the problem is more than just displaying the 'last image with stripes'.

      The amount of precipation activity shown on the radar is nowhere near correct compared to Rainviewer or the source: MetService NZ (links above in previous posts).

      It seems like the data is not being received / computed / displayed correctly.

      @korina

      Are you sure? For me the radar for NZ still sometimes shows "no data" and consistently shows the radar image with "lines" like indicated in example number 3 in your post here https://community.windy.com/topic/10732/weather-radar-with-lines-and-radar-availability/2?_=1594720632201 suggesting "Interference of radar connection, so we show the last image taken before the cut"

      Below is the previous image again for reference.

      I'd appreciate if you can please check the NZ radar again please, thanks :)

    • RE: Windy Pro App vs. FastSeas

      @dlane1181

      Yes the Windy (red) does have some routing functionality built in, but the problem you will have is using it at sea as it's not designed for that type of remote access internet connection.

      The Windy Pro (blue) app is nothing to do with Windy here, it is an entirely separate app made by a competitor.

      Unfortunately this is not the correct support forum for the service you are using.

      Not sure if the Windy NZ Radar maight be having some issues but the image seems quite different to what is available from Rainviewer and the MetService NZ (source). Please see the screenshots to follow:
