Not exactly "local TV channel", but nice display of Windy.com from Gitana Team trying to break the record sailing around the world.

Adding new ICON-D2 model
Hi @ivo.
Have you considered adding the new high resolution weather model ICON-D2 for central Europe? It’s the replacement for the COSMO-D2 model.slightly bigger coverage then the COSMO, 2.1km grid, 1h steps, 27h, updated every 3h
See news here:
https://www.dwd.de/EN/specialusers/aviation/teaser/news/39_cosmo_icon_node.htmlData is here:
https://opendata.dwd.de/weather/nwp/Would love to see it on windy.com
Cheers.

RE: How to setup an alert for *no rain* ?
Ok. Here is some more user feedback. 😊
For most outdoor activities/sports where wind or weather in general is important (that's why you have the alert function, right?), it makes more sense to have a no rain or max rain alert. My wild guess would be it's just a very small minority of people who would activate an alert and say "ok, i'll just go out hiking/kiting/flying/sailing/fishing when it rains at least 5mm for three hours." 🤔
Might be different though for farmers and the like.

RE: windy-plugin-fp
this is an amazing tool, @rittels !
i have no idea about aviation. but with a few changes this also has a big potential for the sailing/boating community as well.
first and most importantly for a nautical use let us choose a slower traveling speed (seems at the moment I can only choose 20kn or higher). I think half knots steps from 1 to 10kn would be a good start. :-)
then for a "sailor version" get rid of all the altitude settings to clean up the UI and take ground level as basic setting. also then change a few terms and abbreviations here and there to use proper nautical language. easy peasy, right? ;-)
again, awesome tool to play around with. thanks.

RE: Propose a NEW LAYER / FEATURE You'd like on Windy
Start-up settings in the iOS app!
Please let me specify the start-up location (e.g.one of my favorites) when I open the app or click the home icon (little house) on the right.
-
RE: How do I change my home setting?
Same question: How can I set up a specific location that I see when I press the „home button“ (the little house) in the iOS App? I do NOT want to use my current GPS-location.
As an extra, it would be nice to also adjust the zoom level in that „home“ view. Is that possible? -
RE: Saved Location on startup with Iphone app
Bump.
I also would like to set up one of my favorites as start-up location in the iOS app. This way I can see the forecast of my surf/kite/sailing spot instead if the place where I am (travel) during work hours.
It works in the browser version, please make it available in the app too!
Big thanks!!!

RE: Windy launches Route Planner
at fcoo.dk you can find a simple version of a routing tool where you can adjust boat speed and starting time. what is missing here though is the forecast in table form or even as a graph. i'm sure windy can go one better. :-) thanks for all the helpful tools!
-
RE: Route planning
Yes, please add numbers for wind direction. Also in the detailed spot forecast and the compare screen. Though a graph would be even better.

RE: Will Windyty app ever be published to iOS?.
it's been there for ages. just search for "windy" in the app store. it's not that hard. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/windy-com/id1161387262

RE: Compare forecast panel - improvement
I also would like to see improvements to the compare screen. I described the idea of comparison by graphs already here.
But what about instead of grouping the information by model you group them by the typ of info? So you can quickly compare temperature, wind direction, wind strength, … ?

RE: windy-plugin-rnc | RNC Nautical Charts
A layer/plugin with data from www.openseamap.org would be nice indeed!

using wind measurements of wind turbines?
hi everyone. this has not really anything specifically to do with this website.
but since quite some time now i'm wondering about the following:i'm living near the baltic sea with flat coastal landscape and lots and lots of wind turbines onshore and offshore. in order work properly (produce energy) every single one of those wind turbines has an anemometer and a wind vane which send live wind data not only to the unit itself but also to the owners computer. so there is software in place that sends live weather data off every single turbine.
does anyone know if there has ever been any thought of using these vast amount of live weather data for weather forecasting or weather/wind reporting? i'm sure that i'm not the first to think about it. and for sure there are bound to be a lot of challenges to create such a system or (better) integrate it into the existing weather forecasting/reporting systems.
i'm just excited by the idea and the potential of such a detailed/complete wind picture this would give, at least for the geographical areas with lots of wind turbines.
any thoughts, ideas, experience?

RE: App Notifications for Weather Conditions
Sorry, I can`t seem to find out, but how do I set up push notifications on the iOS app? I much rather have my alerts in the app than filling up my email account.

RE: Tidal current models
Yes! Please! That would be awesome for a lot of watersports.
-
RE: windy-plugin-rnc | RNC Nautical Charts
A Navionics layer would be great!
-
RE: multiple pin point for wind direction and speed view
But you have to admit that would be cool. I will - again - for the sake of it, drop a screenshot from a competitor's website.
I think a grid of values for any given layer would be a useful addition to Windy. It could be switched on or off to everyones liking.

RE: Windy launches "Observation vs. Forecast"
@Tomber42 said in Windy launches "Observation vs. Forecast":
i don't like this new feature because it will be available on all weather stations..official and PWS. But what should the point on PWS? PWS are often not reliable..because they are not installed with the complicated rules for installing a weather station for meassure real! values. And then compare this PWS to the weather forecast? Useless imho...
-
What are those "complicated rules"? Can you explain, please?
-
If you don't like the PWS reports, then don't click on them. For some it might be helpful information though. Especially if you know where and how the PWS is installed you can evaluate the data for yourself. Maybe a photo of the weather station's location could help.
