I also would like to see improvements to the compare screen. I described the idea of comparison by graphs already here.
But what about instead of grouping the information by model you group them by the typ of info? So you can quickly compare temperature, wind direction, wind strength, … ?
as soon as I start the distance & planning tool, this plugin shuts off and all navigation aids are gone. is there a way to prevent this behaviour from the plugin side? or is this a "windy problem"?
can this be added to the plugin menu to get faster access to the plugin?
I kind of like the idea and I think I did make this suggestion before somewhere on this forum. I can imagine it to be an interesting aspect for a better real world weather visualisation.
Of course it’s not something to look at with a low zoom level (from far away). But with a medium or big zoom level, why not?
In the settings there is a slider for wind animation speed. There got to be some numbers behind this UI. So why not make the lowest speed on the slider the “real wind speed”? Can’t be that hard to add to the code.

I think a grid of values for any given layer would be a useful addition to Windy. It could be switched on or off to everyones liking.
A layer/plugin with data from www.openseamap.org would be nice indeed!

Actually that also applies to most feature requests in this forum. Nobody will nail you down or give you a hard time if you give us just a ROUGH IDEA what your thoughts on the subject is. But the repetitive answer „we will consider it“ starts to sound like “we don’t really need any feedback anymore”.
That’s just my two cents on that feedback loop on feature requests here on the forum.
Other than that I really enjoy the app and the service it provides. Thanks heaps and keep going! Once ICON-DE is there I will support you with a subscription. 👍

As explained by @idefix37, this is not possible.
As an alternative, you can use Humidity map at 700hPa with a specific color above 90%. This level of humidity will indicate a potential front. You can combine it with the temperature map at 850hPa to see the air mass with different temperatures indicating fronts as well
I’m not a programmer by all means, but it sounds as if an algorithm could do what you describe here, no? 😳

what sort of time frame are we talking? from the outside it‘s so hard to judge how much time and effort goes into implementing a new weather model. is it an advantage that you already have the ICON Global and ICON-EU? Or is it a complete new beast you have to tame?

Have you considered adding the new high resolution weather model ICON-D2 for central Europe? It’s the replacement for the COSMO-D2 model.
slightly bigger coverage then the COSMO, 2.1km grid, 1h steps, 27h, updated every 3h

For most outdoor activities/sports where wind or weather in general is important (that's why you have the alert function, right?), it makes more sense to have a no rain or max rain alert.
My wild guess would be it's just a very small minority of people who would activate an alert and say "ok, i'll just go out hiking/kiting/flying/sailing/fishing when it rains at least 5mm for three hours." 🤔
Might be different though for farmers and the like.
