RE: Weird values for MSLP isobar labels are being displayed
@idefix37 said in Weird values for MSLP isobar labels are being displayed:
@Ken
These figures come from the setting of Isolines in the menu. You have selected Geopotential heights which give these values at sea level.Ah so I have @idefix37 , thanks for pointing that out.
Not sure why it defaulted to geopotential height though, because I hadn't manually changed that setting before and wasn't even aware it existed in Windy (is it a new feature?).
I noticed someone mentioned the same issue on this forum earlier as well.
Which pressure surface are those geopotential heights for? They seem to be far too high and low for 500hpa i.e. they range anywhere from about 100 to 700dm depending on the area.

Weird values for MSLP isobar labels are being displayed
Very weird values for the mean sea level pressure isobar labels are being displayed in Windy at the moment - refer to the screenshot below.
I've made sure that I've set the pressure units to hPa and that the height for all the height-adjustable variables are set to the surface, but no luck.
I've also tried logging out and logging back in, clearing my browser's cache, done a hard refresh, checked the other models, etc.
At first, I almost thought it was displaying 500hpa geopotential heights but the values are way too low/high for that.
This problem only seems to happen when I'm logged into the desktop version of Windy - it doesn't seem to happen when I'm logged out or using the mobile app.

RE: When are 15 day forecasts coming?

@idefix37 said in When are 15 day forecasts coming?:
The way the rain or wind accumulation is displayed in the browser version (with 2 sliders) is not possible on a small screen. It is used on iPad with the mobile app because it has a larger screen.
Then a 15-day forecast has very low reliability at a local scale. This is not such a big shortcoming.By the way, when you say
I was referring to the accumulation layers of rain and wind as in the screenshots below.
No, in your first message you were not referring to these layers and you modified some of your posts later.
@idefix37 not being able to have two sliders on a small screen is understandable. But is there a way to at least add a 15-day option at the bottom that we can tap on (in addition to the existing 12hrs, 24hrs, 2 days, 4 days, and 8 days option?
I fully realise a 15-day forecast period has lower accuracy but if you consider the accuracy that low, why even have it on the desktop version in the first place then?
I would've thought the whole point of having an app and website like Windy was to show the raw forecasts from the models, even though it's well known that accuracy is significantly lower beyond about 5 days. Hence why so many weather websites out there show model forecasts out to their full forecast length,
As for my 1st post, I edited it to say "accumulation" to make it clearer and avoid any confusion.
I also said "accumulation" in my 2nd post (my initial reply to your post) which I didn't edit at all if I recall correctly. There's no edit history to that post that I can see. Refer to above screenshot.
I edited my subsequent posts to make them clearer.

Have you tried wind, temperature, rain .... layers?@Gkikas-LGPZ I was referring to the rain and wind accumulation layers as per the below screenshots.
The desktop version of Windy has had 15-day forecasts for both of those layers for a while now but not the mobile app version.

@Ken
The mobile app provide also 15 days forecast for ECMWF and GFS. May be you need to update it.@idefix37 not for me. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing the app as well as logging out and logging back into my premium account but it still only shows up to 8 days for the rainfall and wind accumulation layers - see attached screenshot.
For reference, I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18.3.1

-
When are 15 day forecasts coming?
The desktop version of Windy has had 15-day ECMWF and GFS forecasts for the rain and wind accumulation layers for a while now but the mobile app only goes out to 8 days (which is even shorter than the 10 days that it used to be).
When are you planning to make the 15 day forecasts available for the app to align with what that desktop version already has?

RE: Please extend 18z ACCESS-C out to its full 42hrs
@Filip_K said in Please extend 18z ACCESS-C out to its full 42hrs:
Hi @Ken, You are right, we're currently using only 36 hours from the forecast because all runs are at least 36 hours long. We might use full 42 hours from 18z run in the future, but I unfortunately can't give You any estimate.
Thanks for the response!
-
Please extend 18z ACCESS-C out to its full 42hrs
Thanks very much to the Windy team for recently adding ACCESS-C to the list of models for Australia in the desktop version, but can you please extend the 18z runs of ACCESS-C out to its full 42 hours rather than just 36 hours?
The 00z, 06z, and 12z runs only go out to 36 hours but the 18z run was increased to 42 hours a few years ago as a result of forecaster feedback.

RE: Please clarify why animations were removed
@Caefix I totally agree with you there.
All that time and effort put into the animation feature only for it to be abandoned feels like a big waste to me.
And yes, the animation feature in Windy was much smoother than those in any other website or app I know of. Not only that, those smooth animations could show both both rain and thunder (the lightning symbols) together - something that no other website or app I'm aware of, can do.
Such a unique feature wasted.

Meanwhile >83 milllion views, more than everything else together, there seems a lot of use beyond my mind. Maybe they even prevented some cats from getting wet.
I just used it to communicate the summaries of hours of meditations about eg. geophysics of airflow or development of severe hotspots and tracking SO2 from volcanoes, if time & the bugs allowed it.
It was also very convenient to catch some radar-issues.
Now let´s finally continue Windy´s own satellite project and defeat the bossoid-bug.@Suty , Caefix made a great point - I hadn't even noticed that animations thread had over 83 million views.
-
RE: Please clarify why animations were removed
@Suty the usage doesn't look low judging by this link though: https://community.windy.com/topic/8191/your-animations/36468
Maybe compared to the most widely-used features but to me, that link shows there were more than enough people using it to warrant keeping it.
-
Please clarify why animations were removed
I've seen other people on here ask about this before but when asked why the animation (the "create a timeline animation" feature) was removed, we were given a response about "low" usage and bugs.
When it was pointed out that low usage didn't seem to be a valid reason because many people were still creating animations every day that were getting uploaded to https://community.windy.com/topic/8191/your-animations/36468 , there was no further response.
I also commented that I'd personally only experienced a single bug during the entire time but there was no response to that either.
So in light of the above, could you please clarify why that feature was removed?
As a premium user who pays a fee and especially as someone who also donated money to Windy some time ago when you were appealing for donations, it would be nice to think that such popular useful features wouldn't be removed. -
RE: rain accumulation says "no data"

Yep and in fact, all types of multiday accumulated fields aren't working. For example, the new snow accumulated layer doesn't display either - screenshot above.

@Ken May I ask about the workaround that was available for the old interface?
The procedure for the workaround is described in the links I included in my original post @Suty i.e.

Here's an example with the temperatures circled on the 10-day accumulated rainfall layer @Suty :

RE: animation feature removal
@Suty said in animation feature removal:
@ccarawan @Nezolikesrain Possibility of creating your own animation was removed because of high number of bugs there and low usage of this feature on the end of users.
@Suty have you seen all the animations that were still uploaded every single day to https://community.windy.com/topic/8191/your-animations/36468 by the sheer number of people who were still using that feature?
That includes myself. Not sure how that could classify as low usage. Nor the statement that there were a lot of bugs. I only experienced one single issue but was able to work around it.
Even to this day, I personally don't know of any model website that had an animation feature to this standard so it's very disappointing that this has been taken away. Especially considering some of us are premium users paying a fee.

Can't remove location temperature labels anymore
Ever since the latest update to the desktop version, the following workaround for manually preventing forecast temperatures being displayed for locations when another layer is selected (e.g. winds, accumulated precipitation, etc) doesn't work anymore:
https://community.windy.com/topic/16446/permanently-install-plugin
https://community.windy.com/topic/10006/disable-display-of-temperature/5
As some others have already stated, it would be good to be able to remove those forecast temperature labels when viewing a wind, precipitation, etc layer.
Also, when viewing something like a multiday accumulated rainfall layer, there's no indication on the map what time/date those temperatures are valid for anyway.

RE: Error msg when trying to create an animated video
@Suty there are actually many people who use the animated video feature judging by the sheer number of the animations which automatically get posted in the "Your animations" thread on here every single day:
-
RE: Error msg when trying to create an animated video
@Suty is there a need to remove it, considering it's been so useful for so long and that it's never had any problems until now? (none that I've personally experienced anyway)
It would be extremely disappointing if that were to happen.
