    • RE: Show station's elevation in mouse-over

“pws station” is an important information because many of them provide inaccurate wind speeds due to a wrong location or a wrong height of the anemometer.

Questions: If that's the case, how would I know...? Are there other station types that do not give reliable results as well? Can I hide those "measurements" that do not match reality somehow? Wrong info is even worse than no info, why not remove those stations that prove unreliable from the map?

If station type is really important to judge the data, then e.g. add a reliability score to all stations, maybe color coded so it can be taken into consideration when looking a the map of reported winds. And an option to hide stations with a low score. Or delete unreliable stations so they do not compromise the quality of the map...

You don’t need to zoom in deeply. Just click on the station.

Yes, but you have to click on each single station and then on most screens, scroll to the far right to see the elevation. Not very practical when you try to get an overview over the wind situation at a certain height for a larger area.
Including height in the mouse-over is not ideal (that would be implementing https://community.windy.com/topic/27316/add-a-filter-setting-for-wind-stations-by-elevation ) but at least not as annoying as it is now. A cheap and easy workaround until a real solution can be implemented.

      A simple mock-up...

      Station elevation.jpg

Appending "(1844m)" to the station's name would also do.

And if space is an issue: I'd be much more interested in the elevation than that somewhat useless info "personal station".

    • Show station's elevation in mouse-over

Measured wind is only a useful information when you know at which height it has been measured. In the flats this may be obvious, in the Alps the wind on the valley floor has absolutely nothing to do with the wind higher up. Since elevation is not immediately visible on the map (unless you zoom in deeply and look at a tiny area only), it would be very helpful to make the elevation data easier accessible that is currently possible.

    • Add a filter setting for wind stations by elevation

Windy displays reported wind in a simple on/off scheme. It would be very useful - especially in the mountains - if the stations displayed could be filtered by elevation, similar to the display of the wind layer.
      Use cases:

      • comparing forecasts with reported wind: forecast is for a specific height, being able to filter the reported wind layer to a similar height would make it easier to compare both and determine which model if closest to reality at the moment.
      • choosing a takeoff for paragliding/hanggliding: most takeoffs in a given area are similarly high up but can only be used in certain wind directions. Filtering to the approx. takeoff elevations removes irrelevant but distracting data from the map, which is usually the majority of weather stations since most of them are located in the valleys and only a few higher up the mountains.
      • researching flyability for paragliding: paragliders fly relatively slow and valley winds can get a lot stronger than that sometimes. Filtering reported wind to valley floors would help estimate if the conditions are likely to stay within a safe limit over the course of the day, or could potentially become dangerous.

Filtering by elevation is especially helpful in Windy, since the elevation of a weather station is not visible on the map (also not on mouse-over) but only after selecting it and then swiping to the left for the station details on the bottom of the screen. Try that for an area within 2 hours drive to choose your flying destination for the day and you'll see how much easier it would be with filtering capabilities. :-)

    • Add LWD Austria weather stations

I recently tried a new app for paragliding hike & fly ("Wingit") and it has weather stations from Austria's LWD "Lawinenwarndienst" (avalanche warn service). Those still miss in Windy but would be very useful as they are often located on peaks and ridges high up and report pretty much the meteo wind (as opposed to valley winds lower down) at the typical height of take off sites.
I have no idea how the technical side of pulling them into Windy would have to be implemented, but if the guy from Wingit could do it, it should be possible for Windy as well. And I'm pretty sure the data has a compatible license and can be used free of charge. Would be great if you could look into getting those stations into Windy, too.

      Some links for more details:
