Windy app draining battery. 20% of today's usage according to phone diagnostics. All settings are correct as per this article. Is there a fix?
      Samsung s20FE

I'm experiencing the same issues for a several days on Samsung M54. Widget had been working well for months after later year issues (all permission on the article were given, etc.). I've noticed the widget stops updading (red circle running forever), and battery drain increases quite a lot, with Windy appearing as top app using battery. The background usage for Windy on the last day alone was of 7 hours. Overnight, with the screen off, the phone is kept awake around 40% of the time, while the normal percentage used to be around 10-15%. I've tried cleaning cache and app data already.

      Thanks.

Edit: I've uninstalled Windy hours ago and it completely fixed the battery drain (measured with AccuBattery app).

    • RE: Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update

My app updated to 39.1.4 yesterday, and the widgets are behaving strangely. The app itself seems to be working fine. Samsung One UI 4.0 (Android 12).

At first, widget was black/empty as in this topic's opening post. I've tried removing and adding the widget back, and got a single day displayed:

      Screenshot_20230717-160919_One UI Home.jpg

After a few hours, it was showing the five days as usual, but with a red circle arrow (meaning it's refreshing) instead of the icon on the top left corner. There's definitely something wrong there...

Edit: I've restarted the phone and got a blank widget again:

In another failure pattern, the widget 3 dot menu brings up settings and refresh buttons but they don't respond. Some minutes later they may respond.

I've experienced this exact same behavior. Sometimes, removing the widget and adding it back fixed the issue for some time.

Regarding battery drain, I might have used the wrong word. It's more like an abnormal heavy usage, making windy appear as the top app for that in Samsung's battery configs. I can confirm that after uninstalling windy yesterday, battery is lasting much longer. Probably 20-30% more.

      Regards.

Update: only the temperature is not updated in widget.

Enabling notifications fixed the widget forecast auto refresh to me, however the current temperature is not updating not even when I manually refresh the widget.

@madjoe said in Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update:

There's one interesting addition to it: when you change location, then manually refresh it, the widget updates successfully. It's not successful when you don't change location.

      Same behaviour here.

Version 39.3.2 seems to have fixed all issues with widget update. I can't tell how frequently the widget refreshes itself, but it's definitely refreshing. Thanks.

My device is a Samsung A53 with One UI 6.0.

I can confirm the exact same situation on Samsung M54 with One UI 5. Widget had been refreshing forever, and Windy the top app in battery usage. After uninstalling battery back to normal. Thanks.

Edit: as I've been using windy for quite some time and have followed last year's widget issues, I can confirm all permission were set as expected. Re-adding the widget or reinstalling the app sometimes fixes the issues for some time. Even removing the widget, the high battery usage remained, so I've uninstalled for now.

    • RE: Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update

@MarkNagy Just installed 39.1.5, all permissions were given but the widget is still not refreshing (not even triggering by hand).

Sample of widget when I added it:

      Screenshot_20230811-173118_One UI Home~2.jpg

It shows current temperature as 26C, and after one hour or so without change, I've tried refreshing it by hand to no avail.

Then I switched the location to a favourite and returned it to the GPS location and it refreshed as below (22C).

      Screenshot_20230811-173153_One UI Home~2.jpg

      I'm on a Samsung S10 Lite with Android 12.
Any suggestions of what I could try?
      Thanks.

@Ondřej-Šutera I confirm all those steps were followed and my current version is the most recent one: 39.1.5. Widget is still useless when the current location is selected until you move elsewhere (then it fetches data one-time-only for the new location normally). What actually doesn't work is the frequent updates for the same location.

Fully echo that. I've done all steps and have the same scenario.
      Thanks.

I've installed this version/build yesterday and the widget still can't refresh the forecast and current temperature, not even when I force update it via the elipsis > refresh button. If I change location and go back to GPS, the widget refreshes fine.

Enabling notifications solved the widget issue on Lenovo tablet 👍

Good tip. I had them disabled and after re-enabling them it worked again. However, now there's an annoying popup everytime the widget refreshed, which was the reason I had notifications off in the first place. 😆
