Plase display all data on a spherical surface when viewing the big picture. The distorted Mercator projection is so bad for understanding weather patterns. Take Google Earth as an example. With the skin of your data. Perfect!

Would be great if the information is shown on surface of a ball if you zoom out.
Flat projection is fine for smaller regions but for a more global view, the projection to a balls surface would be much more convenient.
Polar regions would be shown much better and better understandable. An example would be google earth view possibilities.
