I’m a stand-up paddler who does a lot of longer distance (8-15 miles) paddles on the tidal rivers of Midcoast Maine. I play the tides (easy to determine) and the wind in planning my paddles. Windy is dependable when it comes to wind direction, but so inaccurate when it comes to wind speed that I basically ignore it. Example: Yesterday I put in the Kennebec River to paddle WITH the outgoing tide AGAINST what Windy said would be a 2-3 MPH wind. However, the wind had to be 12-15 if it wasn’t 20. Thanks to the strong tide, I completed an 8-miler, but without that tidal current, I would have been paddling in place! This dissonant dynamic has happened several times in the last few years. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions? - Maine Man
