Agreed, the constant drop-down is not helpful. It is distracting and blocks too much of the screen with unwanted information. The idea behind it is good but the implementation is not. Perhaps longpress on locations to bring down this information would be more useful.
Simply navigating around the screen should not cause the drop-downs to occur.
