A trough and a cyclonic vortex are both weather patterns that can be identified on a weather map.

A trough is a region of low atmospheric pressure, which is typically associated with the formation of clouds and precipitation. On a weather map, a trough is represented by a curved line with arrows pointing in the direction of the winds along the trough. The arrows pointing towards each other indicates the winds are converging, which can lead to lift and thunderstorm development.

A cyclonic vortex is a rotating weather system that is characterized by a center of low pressure. The winds circulate around the center in a counter-clockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere. This is known as the "cyclonic flow" or "cyclonic circulation" The circulation can be seen as a large spiral pattern on the map, which is usually represented by a series of closed isobars. This feature is often seen as a low pressure system and usually produces clouds, rain and sometimes severe weather.

Troughs and cyclonic vortexes can be identified on a weather map by looking for regions of low pressure, represented by contours of low pressure called isobars, and by looking for the characteristic flow patterns of the winds around these systems. They can also be identified by analyzing satellite images, which can show the clouds and precipitation associated with these systems.

‘How do I know the wind will be strong? do you have any scale?’

You may refer to the Beaufort scale which gives the effects of wind on the land, as shown here in ‘land conditions’ column:
      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_scale

But this scale is more useful at sea because it is based on the averaged wind over 10 minutes, which is given by the Wind layer in Windy.
On the land, specialists prefer to use the gusts in order to evaluate the risk of damages by the wind. Select Wind gusts in Windy.
Between 80 to 100km/h, gusts are considered potentially dangerous, and from 100km/h and over, really dangerous causing a lot of damages (roofs, trees…)
      .

The dense white cloud between Trapia and Santa Quiteria
looks like a Cumulonimbus (Cb), a thunderstorm cloud.
Cbs (specy capillatus) have a fibrous-edged top that may irisate.
      See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_iridescence

‘ I wanted to put an unknown location’
So, change the name of the favorite and replace it by ‘Unknown location’.
Even in the middle of the Sahara, Windy gives the name of the nearest city or in few places the coordinates.
It’s a bit strange for me to name a favorite ‘Unknown location’.

One can use radar if available in your area, or the satellite IR setting and predict highly localised precipitation events yourself, even when the models and your very pretty local weather-person misses it! Windy sets you free to determine your own forecasts, which is terrific fun at banned parties and illegal gatherings at the beach. ;)

@mbm12 said in How do I know the types of clouds?:

In this photo, can you tell which type of cloud is by its color? Could you explain the differences between these clouds and their precipitations?

I cannot tell you which type of cloud is shown by your screenshots.

      @mbm12
To understand the type of rain, if the airgram or meteogram is not enough, you have to understand why it is going to rain, what is the orgin of rain falls. Is it because of a warm front ? A cold front ? Occlusion ? Are we in the zone just after a cold front ? Convective zone (thunderstorms) ?
Understanding the synoptic will answer to your questions in more details because for each type of synoptic situation you can expect certain type of rain (long and continuous, rain shower,...)
Keep in mind that rain falls < 0.4mm/h is sometimes hard to notice
You can also use the map type of precipitation but it will not completely answer to your questions

would you know to inform me if the next days or a forecast, if my city will have rains (storms) that month? I live in Hidrolândia-CE / Brazil

Will ZCIT get closer to Ceará? How do I know on the wind map if you have a VCAN?
