I can understand it like this: High clouds that do not bring rain are usually a sign of stable weather or just a sign of mild atmospheric changes, such as the appearance of a low pressure area or strong winds coming.

Apparently you joined the Community Forum on 21 nov 2017. So you are not really a layman.

The observation of weather is done at weather stations where several parameters are measured (temperature, wind, rain…). In Windy you get this data by selecting Reported wind or Reported temperature. In addition Weather radar and Satellite layers are also weather observation tools.

The weather forecast is based on numerical models.

In Windy when you select a weather station you get the reported data of the last 10 days. In addition you can compare it with the past forecast by the available models at this location. Choose Observation vs forecast as shown in my screenshot.

How can i tell which cloud is the highest ?
Instead of Blue, select Visible: the white clouds are the highest and the yellowish ones the lowest.

The rain amount is only 0.2mm,
so it is a trace of rain.

Usually is a thunderstorm.
But, as lightning detectors use radio signals emitted by lightning, it is not unusual to be "triggered" by radio signals from other sources. Such false signals are generated by many common environmental sources (auto ignitions, fluorescent lights, TV sets, electric motors, high voltage wires etc.)

Hi @mbmpc, when radar is enabled on Radar+ layer (the RAD button in the bottom panel) the color scale for radar is used instead of color scale for cloud temperature:

RA = rain
-RA = light rain
+RA = heavy rain
TS = thunderstorm
TSRA = thunderstorm with rain

In the area marked with the red circle, there are thunderstorms (estimated tops 34.000ft).
The aircraft No.1, flying at 32000ft, deviated
while the aircraft No.2, flying at 41000ft, flew over the top of the storm.

How interesting, Windy should include a flight radar on the map.

You are right concerning the forecast on the map, but not in the point forecast table. You need to be Premium to have 1 hour steps forecast.

they are airport's without an AWOS - that's why you don't see METAR data. The circles that are coloured are colour coded based on flight rules. (ex. green = VFR)
If you hover over them (on website) it should give you some information on the airport itself. If you click on them you'll get some more useful information.

1.5 l/km2 means 1.5 lighting per square kilometre during 24 h. It gives an idea of the density of lightning strikes.
