I agree with both @Korina and @jpohorelicky. Windy needs an income, as for any company. But Windy also needs to be more honest and transparent.
"We've partnered with webcam.travel" -> "We paid a lot to acquire webcam.travel, as a clever strategic move".
"The other Windy App stole our name" -> "The other Windy App exists since 2016. We decided to take the same name in 2017 because it sounds great. And now we say that we are the real Windy."
"We need money for infrastructure" -> "We need money to pay for the data, the developers and the infrastructure."
We you talk it sounds like Windy is a DIY project run by a small team of volunteers. No. Windy is a startup company with great ambitions, with at least 10 employees and with already multi-million € of capital funding (from Ivo, indeed).
Anyway, there is nothing wrong about being a startup or offering a premium service, and you guys at Windy are doing a great job.

RE: Report your Weather Station Data to Windy
I think that the owners should accept that once they put some data here, the data that they already sent should be here forever. It do not think it will be a problem for producers to accept that, as it is a classical requirement. Otherwise it will be really difficult to manage the takedown of archive data, both for windy and other users.
.
What happens if someone makes a png map of worldwide yearly temperatures… Need to remake the image everytime someone wants to get his data back? Do you see my point?Of course, it's up to you. I am just trying to give some advice.
Cool for the API! Thanks!

RE: AROME altitude layers : a survey
@vicb I am nicolas, the developer of Meteo-Parapente.com and a supplier of AROME data for Windy.
My understanding of why Windy doesn't display AROME is probably because the data servers from Meteo-France are not technically reliable. It is OK for downloading the surface data, but not for downloading the bulk altitude dataset. Windy needs to maintain a certain quality standard that is difficult to achieve with an unreliable data source. Meteo-France servers can collapse at any moment. It happened more than one time - the track record is quite bad. Velivole has regular outages due to unavailability of MF data. Meteociel has outages too but doesn't care much about branding. On the other side, Windy dreams to be the Apple of weather forecasting - they can't risk that.
I can't imagine the PR disaster and if tens of thousands of users were to subscribe to windy specifically for AROME data, and this suddenly disappears due to a technical problem at Meteo-France. (And trust me, I have been practicing MF for 10 years, the risk is more than real!). I wouldn't like anything in the world to be windy's support team on that day.
(BTW, Meteo-Parapente doesn't use AROME but my own model

RE: Report your Weather Station Data to Windy
Shouldn't it be more appropriate to use a widely known license such as Creative Commons BY-SA or ODbL Open Database License for this community project?
Especially, this line seems very problematic and unenforcable: « Providers have full right to discontinue providing the data at any moment and require Aggregator and all Consumers to delete its data ». Why put this restriction? No other license do that.
Will you provide an API to access data form every stations?
