    • New computer interface unliked

      The new interface (on my computer) is so much more difficult and slower to use. I would say that a 15 minute session with the old will take at least an hour with the new. Before I go sail racing I would make a table showing the hourly wind directions, velocites, gusts and temperature predictions for 5 models to cover about 5 hours for a race day. The idea was to decide on the water before the race, which model fit the day best and race plan with that. This interface seems to make that table much slower and more difficult to create. It seems to be slightly different for my phone but is terrible for race planning on my computer.

    • RE: I do NOT like the new interface :-(

      I more than don't like it either. Sail racers must be a small minority of users. The new interface makes windy much less usable for me.

      I use windy for wind direction and velocity predictions to a good picture of what to expect while sail racing. It was reasonably easy to make a table which included 5 model predictions of wind direction, velocity, and gust for each hour on the water. Ideally after a little on the water I could decide which model best fit the day and make tactical decisions accordingly..

      This interface makes my use much slower so that it makes it impractical to make a table for more than one model.

    • Will there be a "True" or "Magnetic" display option any time soon?

      I notice we can choose the most convenient units for distance, temperature, or pressure but not direction. While weather stations report degrees true, magnetic is used by sailors (and probably aviators) whose compasses have to show magnetic to agree with the backup magnetic compasses. That drives the GPS user to magnetic in setup options. My problem occurs when planning a sail racing course. I must convert true direction winds to magnetic to agree with everything else when everything else uses magnetic. The conversions can be done in my head but computers are so much quicker and more accurate that the absence of a True or Magnetic direction choice is an annoying omission.

    • RE: Be one step ahead with the advanced features of Windy Premium! [EN]

      I use windy (mostly as non-premium) for sail racing. I bought a year of premium but didn't ever use any if its advanced features. None seemed useful to improve it for sail racing. I don't intend to re-new and will look at a more dedicated sailing oriented weather channels.

      I'm generally happy with Windy but rather than have to figure it out can you tell me if wind directions are true or magnetic. If True, true or magnetic would be a very nice setting to have for boaters.

    • Distance and Planning Improvements

      "Distance and Planning" (D&P) is less useful than it could be. I use it to plan sailing races. It is better than nothing but has serious shortcommings which create a lot of work better done in software:

      1. There isn't access to wind direction and velocity along the track when in D&P mode,
      2. Opening a second instance to get wind vectors only works with two displays i.e. can't do with tablet.
      3. Integrating the information is made more difficult by the LAT & LON formats being different. The D&P uses fractional degrees and the wind mode uses degrees and fractional minutes. It is further complicated by many external tables using degrees, minutes and seconds.
        Suggestions;
      4. Allow user to choose angular formats.
      5. Allow wind information flags to be displayed in D&P" mode.
      6. Allow frozen wind information flags to include time in D&P mode.
