Actually, I can't tell what's going on, but there are definitely bugs to be sorted out. This was seen at about 11:17am ET:

    • RE: NOAA is about to make some big changes to its global weather model

@TomSlavkovsky Now that the the NOAA has announced that the upgrade to the GFS model is live (https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/noaa-upgrades-us-global-weather-forecast-model), do the GFS forecasts in Windy reflect the upgrade?

      Thanks

    • GFS - FV3 Upgrade

The NOAA today announced a major upgrade to the GFS model: https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/noaa-upgrades-us-global-weather-forecast-model

The model now includes "a new dynamical core called the Finite-Volume Cubed-Sphere (FV3)." The NOAA believes this will result in a dramatic increase in accuracy, bringing the model's accuracy in line with or above that of other top models.

Does the GFS forecast in Windy already reflect the upgrades to GFS?

      Thanks!

    • Innacurate Wind in Firefox

Hello - I'm seeing inaccurate wind speeds and animation in one particular profile in Firefox for Windows (66.0b4). When I load a clean Firefox profile, everything works properly, but I can't stop using the profile where I'm experiencing the bug. I've tried disabling all add-ons, toggling all relevant settings, clearing cookies and the cache, and using a Private Window but the problem persists. No errors in the console. Happy to provide more information if useful.

Edit: I'm also experiencing this issue on https://www.windfinder.com, so it must be something common to both.

      Steps to reproduce:

      1. Open Firefox
      2. Open Windy
      3. Select wind layer

@kekert Also, here's an instance where the "type of danger" is incorrectly displayed:

    • RE: Innacurate Wind in Firefox

Ok, having spent more time troubleshooting, I believe the steps to reproduce are as follows:

      1. Have a wide-gamut monitor
      2. Create a custom color profile for the monitor and have Windows use that profile
      3. Set gfx.color_management.mode in Firefox to option 1. (The default is 2.)
      4. Continue with steps in previous post

That's a pretty narrow set of circumstances, but maybe someone else can reproduce.

Anyway, by making some tweaks, I think I have it working now.

      Thanks!

@Ondřej-Šutera said in Windy brings a real-time global lightning strikes tracking:

@Nrbelex We changed the provider of data for this feature, since we consider Nowcast as a leader of the industry.

      Got it—thanks!
