    • RE: Sounding ground elevation never less than 1000hPa

May I ask @Suty if temp-surface should be used (to correct errors in the Sounding) as the surface airmass for LCL and CCL calculations?

Picking up on this, perhaps it is the place to ask again following as the issue was recently noted again here: https://community.windy.com/topic/37578

@vicb said in Sounding ground elevation never less than 1000hPa:

Maybe @Suty can help connect with someone at windy that would be more knowledgeable than me on that topic.

For now I'll sticks with 1000hPa for the sounding plugin and I'll update if we get more info.

@tomA27 said in Sounding forecast shows incorrect data.:

Whenever the surface pressure is greater than 1000hPa the sounding forecast shows incorrect data.
      Please can this be fixed?

    • RE: Plugins not compatible

      Dear @Suty,

Thank you, I have looked there, but cannot understand how that answers @jakubvrana 's questions. Please may I ask why the Sounding plugin from Victor would now not work as it has done for some years?

As @Stephan-Brand says, it is very bad news for us if it cannot be enabled very soon. This time of year for the weeks ahead we would expect to make heavy use of Victor's work.

If you can give us some feedback soon, it would be very welcome.

      Best regards Nigel

What should we do to make it compatible? Is there some announcement?

    • RE: Sounding forecast shows incorrect data.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Perhaps with @tomA27 we can dig into this. @tomA27 has the calculation in his app so could perhaps show what he used. For me airmass surface (20m AGL) temperature and particularly dewpoint are needed below 1000hPa for any meaningful model so would be disapointed if they were not available.

Without those, I guess surface dewpoint could be extrapolated given geopotential height at 1000hPa, but not surface temperature. Given that CCL would be possible not LCL.

May I also ask if @jancellor has any further insights that could help my understanding?

@vicb said in Sounding forecast shows incorrect data.:

TL;DR Plugins have access to data at different level, the lower one being gh-1000. There is a gh-surface but I'm not sure if we should use this for soundings - they are about the air mass not the ground. I'm not exactly sure what sh-surface is. I asked on the thread I linked above but got not reply.

@jancellor said in Sounding ground elevation never less than 1000hPa:

I hope the temp-surface data can be used. If not, the green thermal line and cloud prediction would have to be removed from the plugin completely, right? Also I think the built-in sounding would have to remove the LCL and CCL.

Tom and I have talked about this for a while. I've been confused in the past by the LCL and CCL numbers not matching what I expect from the chart in the past, and now Tom has pointed out the inconsistency.

May I ask @vicb if the FlyXC sounding could help here? I would dearly like the CCL 'green line' projection to be available in the standard plugin, and larger graphics limited to the layer below ~600hPa.

      Dear @vicb,

I am just discovering that you are in here helping with the docs. May I ask if windy-plugin-sounding will reappear as a plug in or if the core sounding should be changed to match its functionality as @ivo mentioned?

      Best regards Nigel

@GrigoryA Also, regarding the plugin system, we informed all developers of them 2 months ago about the new implementation.

      Dear @Suty,

Thank you, please can I ask for what is meant by "new implementation"?

The reason for asking is that it would be helpful to understand what support we can give Victor to have the plugin made compatible again soon.

      Dear @ivo,

Please may I ask to join the #plugins slack channel. We have a favourite https://www.windy.com/plugins/windy-plugin-sounding that has just stopped working and would like to know how to make it compatible.

      Best regards Nigel
