Hello,
My name is Gerald Cheng (based in Toronto) and I am a warning preparedness meteorologist working for the Meteorological Service of Canada, a branch of Environment & Climate Change Canada. We are the weather alert issuing government agency of Canada. I have some questions regarding the terms of use of your site, Windy.com. I emailed info@windy.com but this method may get a faster response.
-
Term 4.1.2. distinguishes between Free and Paid Services.
a. Does that means we should be using Paid Services because we are a government department, even though we are non-commericial? There is no monetary gain in what we do. -
If we should be using the Paid Services,
b. A colleague and I are using the site at the same time, would that require two separate subscriptions?
c. Do you offer “multi-persons subscription” with a specified number of people who could use the Paid Services at the same time? -
We provide briefings to governmental and critical infrastructure partners. Those briefings are about weather events or response to them (big storms, wildfires, flooding); they allow our partners to maintain situational awareness, change their plans and operations accordingly, when necessary. We would like to use screen/video/gif capture of your website showing different model output such as Rain and Thunder, Precipitation Type, etc., in our presentation deck and the presentation deck would be distributed to those partners. There is no monetary gain for us; our services and products are public.
a. Would Term 9.1 cover the use of screen/video/gif capture and their distribution in the presentation decks to our partners, as long as we adhere to Term 9.4.1 by including either your logo or the words Source: Windy.com?
b. We may have to add additional text, arrows, polygons on top of the screen/video/gif capture to explain to our partners certain weather features in the presentation deck. Would that be considered “modification” under Term 9.4.1? -
Lastly, our operational offices across Canada have social media accounts. Here are some examples: @ECCCWeatherON, @ECCCMeteoQC, @ECCC_CHC, and @ECCC_CIS (you can take a look).
a. Would Term 9.1 also cover the use of screen/video/gif capture for social media? It does not explicitly say.
b. If we are permitted to tweet scree/video/gif capture, then am I assuming correctly that Term 9.4.1 would require us to include the source in the tweet, either on the image/video/gif itself or in the text of the tweet?
If you can let me know the answers as soon as possible, that would be great.
Kindest regards,
Gerald Cheng, on behalf of
