@idefix37 The weather station is not reporting temperature and as I said before the thumbup icon is wrong even if that is the case.

Missing features to be perfect: grib, off-line, weather routing
Hi, Windy is not only the best weather app, it is probably one of the best software ever created. It is not common to find software that looks good, is easy to use, is full of features, it has everything you can imagine and more and is not buggy. It is polished, didn't find bugs while using it. CPU usage optimization probably needs some love.
Lately software is extremely minimalist and when they add features quality is reduced, Windy is the opposite. Congratulations.
Unfortunately there are a few reasons for sailing use case to use other apps:
1 historical data (see how wind was in the route you did last weekend)
2 GRIB files for off-shore small downloads
3 bathymetry and tides (not sure if it is hidden somewhere in the menu, tidal current is there)
4 weather routingBeing weather routing the hardest to implement feature with probably intense backend processing.
From reading this forum I learnt the reason for 1 and 2 not being supported is license limitations. Can it be solved if we pay more?
And what about weather routing? how hard can it be for the obviously super skilled developers you already have in the team?Is depressing to use a competitor app that has this features but is the opposite of "polished" and easy to use software. What can we do to help Windy to implement this features?
Thank you

RE: windy-plugin-polars
@rittels What else is necessary to implement weather routing? Do you need help?

RE: Radar Argentina
Argentina radar feed is not working during interesting storm time. is there any official entity responsible that we can contact?
Windy makes their radar information 100x more useful.
Argentina's national weather service has the information in obsolete and inefficient image format:

RE: Help us to test Windy.com in offline mode
I discovered this feature today, and I'm very happy; this, along with weather routing, will make Windy the perfect weather app, making expensive sailing-focused apps obsolete.
Some comments, comparing with the experience using GRIB files:
-
looks like a bigger area than the red square is downloaded? it would be useful to be able to limit the area to reduce data size.
-
it would be good to know in advance the amount of data that will be downloaded (important for remote, satellite communications)
-
download progress bar could include amount downloaded, speed, ETA
Thank you for implementing this!!

Wrong median temp error when station does not report temperature
In the new compare models view an incorrect (300 degrees) temperature value is displayed as median error (see screenshot) even with a thumsbup icon.
Looks like this happens when the station is not reporting temperature. In any case the thumsbup icon is probably an additional bug.

Find information about weather reporting ships
In my zone ships with weather stations are not common but very useful when they are in the zone while planning a trip, so I would like to know the list of ships that are currently reporting to track their location and know in advance if they will be in the area. Googling the id displayed by Windy worked for some ships but not for the ones that are in my area. I tried to find them in the NOAA list but the IDs are different.

RE: Distinct display of observed wind when outdated or not matching model time
@idefix37 Thanks for the explanation but I understand it, my suggestion is to improve the UI/UX to:
-
if model is set to current time reflect when the observed value is old (more than 2 hours) changing how it looks (for example grayed out).
-
When the model does not match current time because user is moving it to the future: hide the observed time or show it as in 1.

RE: Distinct display of observed wind when outdated or not matching model time
@idefix37
First case, station shows NE and partcile animation is E because wind rotated and the last update of the station was more than hour ago (you have to click to see that):
And the second case, just turn on observed wind and move the time slider of the model to the future, nothing changes in the visualization of the station, it is confusing.

RE: Wind gust in Compare Screen
@nesro True, that is useful, thank you. However that view does not include rain and temperature. In my opinion, the compare views is very close to being able to display all the information while keeping clarity.

Distinct display of observed wind when outdated or not matching model time
Hi Windy Team and community,
I've noticed a potential area for improvement in how observed wind data is displayed when sliding the timeline. Currently, the arrow indicating wind speed and direction remains the same regardless of whether the time of the observation matches the model time being displayed. This can lead to confusion.
I suggest implementing a visual difference in the wind arrow when:
-
The timeline is moved, and the observed data doesn't match the model time.
-
The station data is outdated compared to the current model time. This happens with remote (e.g., buoys) and ships very often.
Differentiating these scenarios could improve clarity and usability, perhaps through color changes or a distinct icon.
For example gray color but still keeping the wind speed color as a border. Thanks for considering this feedback!
