    • RE: Currents layer looks different compared to Windy homepage

      @korina

I decided to compare the Currents layer in the Map API with Windy.com to find out how frequent the updates are.

I took screenshots in 15 min intervals of both the Map API and Windy.com one next to the other.

In the Map API, at around 2 am (GMT+2) the last update time changes from "10h ago" to "4h ago" which shows that even after the update and at any time, we are presented with outdated Currents layer.

      #2

The 1st screenshot was taken at around 1:37 am, and the 2nd one 15 mins later. (GMT+2)

Furthemore, Windy.com also updates once every 24 hours, but again, when it updates, the data presented are from a few hours ago.

So my questions are actually some clarifications. As we need the Currents layer from Windy, we have to know exactly what data we are being shown.

      1. When exactly does the Map API update happen? Is it consistently at around 2 am (GMT+2)?
      2. When the update happens in the Map API, are the data from how many hours before? In the example the Currents layer after the update, had the data from 4h ago. Is that always the case?
      3. Is Windy.com indeed more frequently updated? What are the exact times they are being updated?
      4. When Windy.com Currents layer updates, the new data is from the same exact time it was updated, or again from a few hours ago like the Maps API?

As a Pro user for the Windy Map API, the exact frequency and time of updates for each of the layers (in our case Currents is a priority) is something we actually need.

@korina is it not possible to have the real time currents in the professional API as the website? Or are we stuck with the non-realtime currents layer?

      Also a couple more questions:

      1. how often is the currents layer being updated in the API?
      2. how can we know what the current time is in any layer? Timestamp in this case would return the correct time of the layer?

@korina I sent the link via message a few days ago. If you want me to also send an email, let me know.

@korina Hi Korina, yes the issue still exists.

"Hello, API currents only show data for the current time, there is no timeline. That may cause some confusion. Please check if you really have the same timestamp or share another screenshot of the issue."
I understand there's no timeline, but that doesn't explain why my currents layer is different as we are not setting any timestamp.

You can see the differences below:
Wind layer is identical with GFS model (left=embedded windy map, right=windy homepage)
      Winds layer
Currents layer is different (left=embedded windy map, right=windy homepage currents selected)
      Currents layer
There's is no timestamp set. It's just an embedded windy map with no other options set, yet Currents looks different compared to the the homepage.
It has been tested with both trial and professional keys (professional key is attached to a different account, screenshots are from the professional key)

      Thank you for your patience.

@korina yes, they are still different. Did the team change something?

    • Currents layer looks different compared to Windy homepage

Left: embedded WindyAPI trial | right: Windy homepage

Left: WindyAPI with a trial key
      Right: Windy homepage

It's the same timestamp in both instances, and in both Currents layers is selected.

My question is, shouldn't both look identical? The Windy homepage one (which I suppose is the paid version) looks more animated, and the currents even look different.
In the trial version, they do not look intense.

Which is the correct one? How can the currents in the embedded WindyAPI map, look just like the homepage?
Is this a difference between trial and paid?

      Thank you in advance!
