Then, it must be underlined that the NOAA/NHC hurricane predictions are based on « Sustained Winds » which are the averaged wind speed on 1 minute (as used by the Saffir-Simpson scale) The Wind layer on Windy from the ECMWF is calibrated on averaged wind on 10 minutes. For the same wind, the speed measured on 1min. is roughly 30% higher than the speed measured on 10min.
