Hello! Recently the weather radar data for Iceland went missing (few days). I´m guessing Windy gets its radar data for Europe from EUMETNET/OPERA? Anyways, the weather radar data from The Icelandic Met Office is available directly as HDF5 files following the ODIM standard here: https://brunnur.vedur.is/radar/data.html

The Met Office recently added the 3rd C-band radar in the northern part of the island, greatly increasing the coverage. I belive this site has not yet been added to EUMETNET/OPERA

I´m also the GIS Coordinator of the Icelandic Met Office so you should be able to at least answer some questions or add info if needed.

We at the Icelandic Met Office are super excited to have our radar data available on Windy. Big thumbs up! Also, very nice to have our logo appear + link to our website. But the text that appears alongside the logo is inaccurate and not needed (“VI protects your life and property by publishing radar data”). I would like to make a formal request on behalf of the Icelandic Met Office that this text will be removed. Is there a more formal way of making this request than posting it here?

Update: The weather warnings have now been split into areas, a mix of moderate and severe warnings. This is now reflected correctly on Windy.

Hello Windy community!

I would just like to point out that we at the Icelandic Met Office now have a dedicated API for weather observations that is open and available for everyone. This includes both automatic weather stations (AWS) and manned observations (SYNOP). The documentation and all the different methods are available here (swagger): https://api.vedur.is/weather/

The API not only includes station operated by the Icelandic Met Office but also from our friends at the National Road Administration (Vegagerðin) and The National Power Company (Landsvirkjun).

Here are a few examples API calls:

• All automatic stations that are currently in operation with their name, owner, IDs, location etc. (type=sj and active=true):
  https://api.vedur.is/weather/stations?active=true&station_type=sj
• Latest hourly observations from all automatic weather stations with basic parameters
  https://api.vedur.is/weather/observations/aws/hour/latest?parameters=basic

Note that this API also allows for fetching past observations from stations no longer in operation. We have a very bare-bones interface for those who want to get weather data by selection stations on a map, pick aggregation level, format etc. here: https://athuganir.vedur.is/?lng=en#
