    • RE: Will windy be getting the data from the new update to the ECMWF coming in the spring ?

@korina Hello, my apologizes for the late reply. I went back to the original source material on the ECMWF and it was in their upgrade timeline of achievements by 2025 that they wanted to get a new core while also giving a higher resolution to the HRES model. Then I saw the upgrade notes coming up which I originally thought were for the summer (so like Q2/Q3 of this year) and for the HRES, however I was wrong and the upgrades coming are for Q1 of 2023 and for the ENS not the HRES.

I apologize for the mistake, and possibly getting people to excited.

    • Possible to get Canadian Models ?

      Hello,

I just wanted to add some feedback saying I think it would be really nice to have either the HRDPS or the RDPS available in Windy. If Windys is trying to focus on global model display then the GDPS would also be a nice addition.

To my knowledge all of the grib files are open source. If you want information on the HRDPS it can be found at:

      https://weather.gc.ca/grib/grib2_HRDPS_HR_e.html

with links to the download section given there as well. But where the files are located to is:

      https://dd.weather.gc.ca/model_hrdps/continental/grib2/

This is the continental coverage of the HRDPS which also contains all 4 runs of it as well. The reason why I would prefer the HRDPS is because with the Euro being ~9km grids and the HRDPS being 2.5km grids it gives a nice comparison between the two.

Just some feedback but I really enjoy using Windy and would like to see it further improve :)

    • RE: New Sounding format on App

To add onto this, it seems like (at least for me), you can scrub through different times in the model. However the problem is, on the desktop app there is no time indicator when you are full screen.

The only way to tell that you are changing the time is paying attention to the URL which updates every time you use the arrow keys to go forward/backward.

    • RE: Canadian models

I too would like to see an addition of some of the Canadian Models (personally I would like the HRDPS or GDPS). The reason being is that these tend to do well in the Canadian Arctic due to it being linked to the ice models that the Canadians are using.

Myself and several people I know use Windy all the time. But when we go for trips to the arctic, we find the Canadian Models tend to do better up there and have to switch to another site.

    • Plans to get the JMA Models into Windy ?

Just out of curiosity, but is there any plans to have the JMA models (specifically the global model) available on Windy ? I think it would be a great asset if possible, especially for anyone using Windy in the Europe/Asia region to be able to visualize both models.

    • Possible to add FZRA/PL to the meteogram view ?

Just wondering but is there a possibility to have freezing precip (like FZRA) to be included into the meteogram view ? Possibly giving it a colour of red would be nice. I know in most cases it will be a small bar, so if it doesn't fit functionality well to have it show as a bar (like what is done with Rain/Snow/Conv. Rain), maybe add some other indications that ZR is being indicated for a period of time ?

I have gotten a few comments saying that friends/coworkers saying they overlooked the current displays for ZR when looking at the Meteogram. I know its a minor thing, but I think especially since ZR is a hazard to both aviation and public it would be a nice addition/improvement to have for the fall if possible.

    • RE: 500mb Heights with Satellite Overlay

@wxgeek To my knowledge this cannot be done because, atleast to my knowledge, the contours for both GP Height and MSLP are based on model data and not real observations. This is probably why you haven't been able to do this, as the satellite images you get are real time (with some delay of course).

So it was probably thought that while yes it is useful to look at 500mb contours for synoptic patterns. Overlaying real time observations (i.e. from a sat) might not be entirely helpful. The reason why it wouldn't be as helpful (in my opinion) is because you would only get a single timestep of model data, meanwhile satellite images are done every 10mins.

Good question though, but I think Windy is mainly for viewing model data. Not for doing real-time analysis/prognosis.

    • Will windy be getting the data from the new update to the ECMWF coming in the spring ?

I know in the spring/early summer the ECMWF is planning on updating the dynamic core of the models and giving a higher resolution (possibly going near 4-5km). I am just wondering if WINDY will be the place to get that new data, and if it will be locked behind the premium paywall or if there is still a plan to offer some level of free access ?
