It would be nice to be able to toggle 'Off' the radar 'Forecast'.

Not sure how others find it, but for me, the forecast(approx 1 hour into the future??) is usually pretty inaccurate, so rarely a good indication on where the storms will track.

Also, I find that when I have a Radar page up and running, as soon as that page loses focus, it moves to showing the 'Forecast' radar, rather than the current radar.
VERY frustrating.

PLEASE; Give me the option/toggle to turn the forecast section of the radar OFF.

@Rod-Outback How exactly does this happen? You cannot play the forecast if you not intentionally click on that part of the timeline. If you play the animation of past data, it is not possible to get to the forecast animation.

Thats not correct; at least in both my browsers (Firefox with latest patches).
If I have multiple browser pages open, and one of them is running the historical radar data, and I change focus to another page, when I return to the Windy radar page, the radar is now only playing the 'Forecast' section of the radar.

I dont know why it's happening, but this seems to have started in the past few weeks, but possibly longer(not 100% sure).

Again; I'm not sure who gets any benefit from the 'Forecast' radar, because in our case (Western QLD - Australia), the 'Forecast' is woefully inaccurate.
Being able to toggle this feature ON/OFF would be a great thing; in my world, at least.
[And it seems I'm not the only person who's experiencing it..]

Have you progressed this at all to provide the option to disable the weather radar forecast? I find it unhelpful and inaccurate.

Also, when I load the weather radar forecast I use it by holding the slider and swiping back and forth with it across the screen repeatedly to get an idea of weather movement.

Previously this was simply left and right to the limits of the screen and the weather radar imagery would hard stop at each end of the historic period of time being represented.

However, now I can't do that as I have to stop in the middle which is hard to do accurately. I wish to be able to enable/disable the radar forecast in options please.

This should not be a challenging option to implement and judging from other posts seems to be wanted by other users.

Please let me know if you are able to implement this and allow users to customise their experience according to their use requirements.

I agree wholeheartedly with this request; the radar forecast is next to useless, and the radar slider keeps jumping from 'actual' to 'forecast', which adds even more to the confusion.
[This jumping isnt supposed to be possible, but I see it happens dozens of times a day]
I have now verified that the jumping from 'actual' to 'forecast' happens on both my Windows 10 laptops running latest version of Firefox, but also on my Samsung phone running latest version of Firefox.
So I'm thinking this snt just me..
But setting aside my frustrations with what looks to be a bug in the Radar/forecast map, the forecast radar never tracks even close to the actual.
So, I'd ask for this option(Forecast Radar) to be able to be turned off; same as we can do for lightning and others.

And would you believe it, but the damned RADAR STILL jumps across to the forecast!

Amazing!

Again; the Forecast RADAR is nigh-on useless for me (and many others); it simply doesnt work with any reliable accuracy.
Just PLEASE give me the option to turn the forecast OFF, and I'd be happy as a clam!

"Make this work?" ?? - I'm not trying to force this problem; hence my suggestion there's a toggle for the forecast be switched on/off(as is done with 'lightning', 'sound', and 'my location').

I've found NO set time-frame for the change to happen.
This morning, it happened in a matter of minutes; while I was checking the news on ABC.NET.AU.
Within maybe 5 minutes of looking at the news, the radar had switched to running the forecast rain.

Tried to repeat it(to try to pin down an exact event) and couldnt get it to happen again.
I had wondered if it was something like an onLostFocus event when the radar updated to the latest imagery(every 10 minutes?), but cant seem to find the exact trigger to cause it to happen on demand.

But happen again, it will!
And it's frustrating.
Definately happening on both my laptops running Firefox, but not 100% sure I've seen it on my Android phone, yet.

Watched it jump across from Radar to forecast radar, twice in succession, this afternoon.
Looks like it was around 5-8 minutes apart, but definitely jumped, while I wasnt moving/clicking anything on the screen.
I keep coming back to something happening when the radar imagery updates, and the 'Forecast' section takes focus.
But it definitely does jump from Radar, to Forecast, on it's own.

Problem is; once the focus for the page is lost(even for a minute or two), the radar now only plays the 'Forecast' section of the radar, which I'm finding woefully inaccurate.

I often have the radar page running, while I have other pages open while working here in my office.
When I come back to the radar to check it, I find the radar only playing the forecast track.

Frustrating, and something that only started happening in the past month or so.

To the people at Windy,

I live in Western Queensland, Australia.
I have a Windy Premium subscription, as weather is a big part of our lives.
I have a home wireless network using our satellite broadband link(Skymesh), as we have no mobile phone coverage.

In the past week or so, BOTH my laptops stopped displaying Lightning on the Radar OR the Satellite/Radar pages.
But the Android phone app still DOES display lightning for the same pages, over the same area.

I've re-booted the laptops, to no effect.
Yes; I've checked that the 'Show Lightning' option is selected.
Both are running Mozilla Firefox, with the latest patches.
Both are running Windows 10, though.
I cant find any settings that should affect this, and certainly none that I've changed in the past week or so.

I saw last week, that there were feed issues for some parts of the world, and that Australia was one of those areas affected.
But I'm no longer seeing those warnings, so not sure if thats related.

Very frustrating; Lightning and Radar are important for our Summer bushfire watch.

Speaking from perspective of a user from Outback Australia, so I appreciate my needs might be a bit different..
In the Summer/Thunderstorm months, Windy is used multiple times daily, to track storms, as well as where lighting has struck(potential bushfires).
I use Favorites a lot, and at present have around 50 of them in our area.
We dont have a lot of major roads, geographical features or towns in our region to assist with location, so Favorites help me pin down locations of Lightning Strikes, and so where we might need to be keeping a lookout for bushfires starting up.

What would be a HUGE improvement for me:-

1). Option to have Favorites Locations saved with a selection of maybe 8-10 different icons, instead of them all being love-hearts.
Different icons would make tracking thunderstorms and/or bushfires in our area a lot simpler when the map is zoomed out(ie cant see the Favorite names).
I'd be able to use one icon for houses, another for dams, and another for other building types, etc etc etc.

2). Having at least Favorites AND the fires able to be displayed on the map at the same time.
[So, being able to see both fires and Favorites on the map at the same time..]
I seem to remember this was an option a couple of years back?
Frustrating when trying to locate fires in the region, when one of the reference points I could use, is turned off when I turn on the fires.

Anyway; I make this suggestion on how Windy might be able to make itself even better.

Something I'd value greatly, is to be able to have options of different icons for my Favorites.

I live in Outback Australia, and I have about 40 locations marked as favorites.
For the majority of these favorites, they allow me to get an idea of how rain and other weather might be progressing across our area.
[Others are spread around the country; keeping track of weather affecting various family..]

But, it would be of great value, if I could chose from a range of icons for the favorites, rather than have them all as a collection of Love Hearts.
Some of these people; I don't love AT ALL!

In addition to having a range of icons for Favorites, it would also be nice if I could alter the size of them, and so have some larger than others.
[NOT as handy as being able to select different icons for favorites, but I can see uses for this option as well.]

Anyway; suggestion for future enhancement to the UI.

All bearings and directions in Windy are True, in the Distance & planning feature and for wind, waves or currents, directions in models forecast or in weather stations reports. These directions are never displayed in Magnetic directions in Windy.

However, would it be hard for Windy to state clearly somewhere that any direction/bearing they display is 'True'?

Just a suggestion; I note that distance, temp, height and nigh-on all other standards of measurement are defined, but no clear indication on what direction standard is being used.

I cant seem to find the answer to this anywhere; does anyone else know?

If I use the 'Distance & Planning' tool, and draw a line on the map, I can then look at the bearing between Point 1 and Point 2.
Is this bearing 'True', or is it a Magnetic bearing?
I would assume 'True', but I cannot find info either way.

This feature is useful in triangulating a bushfire, but results get a bit confusing if our compasses are seeing a different bearing to Windy(magnetic variation)..

All I would like to know, is whether the bearing in this tool is displaying 'True' or Magnetic.
And I would suggest it might be useful to have this info shown somewhere?
