It's amazing to have access to ECMWF data for the planet. The best global model in the world.
Many thanks Windy!

ECMWF Convective Precipitation Chart
Is there the potential to add a convective precipitation layer to the ECMWF forecast map. The 'rain, snow' layer is of course great but during convective weather is would be useful to identify precipitation that is convective in nature. Does the ECMWF model provide such an output?
Both non-convective and convective precipitation is differentiated in the ECMWF meteogram for a given location, so why not for the map?
Many thanks,
Richard.

No weather radar for Spain
Hello,
I've noticed no data available for Spanish weather radars. Is this a fault as this data was available?
Many thanks,
Mark. -
ECMWF adds 06Z and 18Z forecast runs!!
Hi,
Will you be implementing the extra ECMWF 06Z and 18Z runs?
Forecast data now available in hourly time steps out to 90 hrs forecast!See:
Thanks,
Mark.

RE: ECMWF provides forecast simulated radar base reflectivity (dBZ)
Hi,
That's a shame. I can't see the problem in adding it for those that would use it. As I mentioned above, it has advantages over the 3 hour precipitation.
Surely, the more choice for users, the better! -
RE: ECMWF provides forecast simulated radar base reflectivity (dBZ)
Just to clarify: It is Total Precipitation Rate (same as Instantaneous Precipitation Rate)
Thanks,
Mark.

RE: ECMWF provides forecast simulated radar base reflectivity (dBZ)
@tz
Hi,Sorry for the confusion
The actual product is instantaneous precipitation rate....see the link below which is basically the same as simulated radar. You have to scroll down a bit to find it.
https://www.ecmwf.int/en/forecasts/documentation-and-support/evolution-ifs/cycles/summary-cycle-45r1
It is included with with the new lighting forecast data in the latest model update.
The base reflectivity output from ECMWF I mentioned is in fact the instantaneous precipitation rate converted to radar dBZ values.
Could you add this product (instantaneous precipitation rate) to Windy please?
Cheers,
Mark.

RE: ECMWF provides forecast simulated radar base reflectivity (dBZ)
A example of an advantage:
ECMWF may forecast a line of convection moving steadily with the wind, for example. The forecast radar output will show this as a line whereas the 3hr rainfall rate currently on Windy will depict this line as a circle of colour as the rainfall is an average over the previous 3 hours.
In other words, the forecast radar output will provide additional detail to forecast precipitation. -
ECMWF provides forecast simulated radar base reflectivity (dBZ)
Why not provide this output on windy? It has an advantage over the 3 hr rainfall in that it shows instantaneous rainfall whereas the 3hr rainfall rate is an average over the last 3 hours.
It is easier to locate areas of convective activity with the simulated radar forecast as it does not average out rainfall over the previous 3 hours.
Please consider adding the ECMWF forecast simulated radar reflectivity to Windy -

RE: Lightning flash density
Lightning density forecast by ECMWF still not available? Any estimates when it might be available on Windy?
