Nice feature!
I would recommend to use mp4 or webm instead of gif. Video is much smaller with same quality.
That's how most popular "gif" sharing sites do it.

I know it is still work in progress and not sure how you have implemented this functionality.
But can you add feature when you drag and drop file to map area, it automatically parses it.
It is much easier than adding files through file picker.
You can test dragging files (gpx, kml, kmz, geojson) to map in my site: https://gis.ee/meri/
This is not controlled by Windy. Please see the following posts and direct your issue to www.openstreetmap.org instead:

Let's leave political topics out of the Windy forum please and focus on the discussion of weather.
Technical issues happen once in a while.
Even for billion dollar companies like Facebook or Google.
Give some respect for Windy team that provide you free weather data from paid providers.
Excellent new feature
Good job Windy team!
I think relative arrow system is great for quick overview.
Maybe add some expandable rows with numerical data (wind angle, wind direction).
Buttons for changing weather models would be helpful.
I think I have new favourite tool, next to "compare models" feature.
Vote number 1: HIRLAM approx 7.5km resolution
Last time I read about AROME, there was fee for automated data download. Not sure if it is changed.

Don't bother replying.
He is always trolling and making non-sense posts.
On computer use arrow keys for 1hour movements.
Free version
Windy API is free and with unrestricted traffic usage, but offers only the gfs forecast model and only wind, rain, clouds, temperature, pressure, currents and waves layer. The Windy logo MUST remain as it is, i.e. clickable and without modification. However, you can move the Windy logo wherever you want within the Windy map. For the free version of the API, we reserve the right to 1) display advertisement inside the Windy map, 2) place "Download Windy App" message from time to time on mobile devices, or 3) discontinue free version of Windy API v4 at any time without prior notice
Paid version
For serious work, we recommend to use the paid version that contains iconEu, nam and gfs models and the most of all layers and also isolines. Paid version will also not contain our advertisement. It costs only 720USD per year (ordered via this form and paid annually via invoice). Developers of paid version can decrease opacity of Windy logo to 0.8 (however logo must remain clickable) and usage limit is average of 5.000 Unique Visitors a day (measured by Google Analytics). For permission to a higher quota, please contact us.
We are not allowed to provide ECMWF data to third parties, and therefore we cannot provide layers based on this data model (thunder, deg0, cloudtop, cbase, visibility, swell3, snowcover, ozone, sst and cape). We also cannot provide you with the radar layer. Everything else is included in the paid version and this Change Windy parameters tutorial will show you how to access all allowed layers (even if they are not displayed in the right menu).

Premium is good way to support developers, so they can give out most features for free.
All those maps are based on Windy API: https://api.windy.com/map-forecast
There are some official examples also available.
My site is tracker.ee, you can copy-paste some code if you want, just don't make visually identical clone :)
Multiple boats (race ended, so no active movements):

Single boat:
https://gis.ee/leaucommotion/
Probably most difficult part is getting data from boat.
For L'Eau Commotion Iridium Go was used.
Iridium Go has automatic reporting service via e-mail.
Server can fetch those e-mail reports and make it usable for Leaflet map (Windy API).
Marinetraffic.com is only provider with decent world-wide coverage, but their API is really expensive.
Free providers don't have enough coverage to be useful. I doubt it is worth effort to add AIS data to Windy.com main app.
In my opinion Windy should stay focused on weather data.
Maybe users who want AIS data can asks Marinetraffic/Vesselfinder to use Windy API or write their own app with Windy API.
// I have used Marinetraffic API, it worked great for tracking boats near shore, but for 20 boat it was around 200EUR month. If Satellite AIS data is needed then price is much-much higher.
No, it is not possible
Unit is bft not knots
