+1. I used Windy for weeks before I understood how the search preview results were displaying (and that hovering over one gives you a little bubble showing the location).
@Suty The bell on the forum web site is working fine, it's emails that are the problem. As of now I have to remember to proactively check the forum for replies. My preference would be to receive an email notice when someone replies to me.
@Suty I don't get the prompt in other browsers, even including conventional Safari. Those have location permission set to Deny, and do not re-prompt me every time.
However, I am still hoping this can be resolved. What seems to be happening is something in Windy is trying to acquire my location, even though I haven't requested that (all I did was change layers). I'm wondering if this extraneous location request can be removed, which would in turn stop this prompt.
I've done what I can to try to subscribe to email notifications for forum topics I'm participating in, but I haven't ever received a message about new posts.
I have:
Is there something additional I need to do? Are other folks getting email notifications?
Just to be verbose, I'm talking about the forum here and not weather notifications.
@Suty It's kind of in between. It's known as a “Safari web app.” Basically you turn a web page into a local app. It's handy for sites that you use frequently or want to leave open. Anyone with a Mac can reproduce this.
This may be a problem only Apple can solve, and if that's the conclusion, that's fine. I just wanted to check in here.
@Suty Thanks for the explanation, however, it is not an infobar, it's an interactive dialog that I have to click through.
I have Windy saved on macOS as a Safari web app ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/104996 ).
Every time I access the Radar+ layer, I'm given an error message that "Location access for Windy is turned off."
This is an intentional setting by me - I do indeed have location permissions denied for the app. This is not a mistake.
I wonder if it is possible to respect this setting and not alert me every time? It may be an Apple / Safari bug, and if so, I can file a report with them.
Thanks
Probably in light of Milton, the Windy iPhone app has a new "stay safe in hurricane season" overlay.
At least on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, this overlay cannot be dismissed (i.e. I cannot get to any weather information). The problem is there is an 'x' to close, but it is drawn way in the upper corner of the screen behind the battery icon. The phone doesn't accept taps up there.
I found a workaround of force-quitting and re-opening. The overlay didn't seem to come back.
