    • RE: Just go back to the old UI please!

      @Ondřej-Šutera

      Windy, that's not an answer. We and hundreds of other people don't want the new interface. There's so many annoyances it would take an hour to list them, but for me the biggest problem is now to look at the wind direction and speed I have to take my eyes off the location picker( in the old app it was a little Dot with a flag that displayed the direction and speed) and look way up to the left on this ugly gray bar that obscures part of the map. That is way harder to use than having the wind direction and speed displayed right next to the white dot on the map that indicates your location focus.

      Get it through your head that we don't like the new user interface. Many of us, myself included, have taken to having to find the older APK and install it on our Android phones. That option is not available for people on iPhones they're stuck with the new horrible interface.

      Instead of wasting your coding time breaking a perfectly usable interface, why don't you fix all the bugs that we've been reporting for years that you never get around to fixing. Like the inability to tap a paragliding spot and bring up the details. Like the fact that in the air grams, as you scroll to the right, you can no longer see the pressure altitude indicators so you have no idea which altitude you're looking at after you've scrolled to the right.

      I've been a premium user for 6 years. You need to pay attention to your paying user base and quit coding for people that just want to see if it's going to rain on their picnic.

    • RE: Why is Wind speed in hurricanes so wrong?

      @TZ 100% correct TZ. Others in this thread clearly don't understand weather modeling. Windy pulls the model data - NAM 3k, ECMWF 9k or GFS 22k - from NOAA and other agencies and then displays it on a great GUI - all 100% free. Windy does not generate model data. Prior to Windy I was forced to look at the raw data - ugh. I'm hoping soon that Windy can also show other "popular" models such as HRRR, OP4-, BAK40, etc. Also, a skew-t at a click would be wonderful! Keep up the good work. Windy is an invaluable tool for pilots and sailors, who use it every day. As for the haters - take the time to learn how to use Windy - for example, I just now selected Wind Gusts and see 155 MPH near the eye of Irma - very accurate. And study meteorology , it might help you get a clue ... if all that fails, go use some other app/website, most are not free.

      @nirvous I agree! XCskies has HRRR, it would be great to have it in Windy too!

    • MetoBlue wildly inaccurate in the SW usa

      Simply put, MB is never correct. Not only is it wrong when compared with actual observations, it's always in disagreement with other models, not just GFS, ECMWF, NAM, but also OP40, ICON, and HRRR.

      Just saying..screen shot

    • NAM updates slow, "about data" contradictory

      For several days I've noticed that moving the time slider in the Android app will not change the wind or other parameters displayed, only when NAM is selected. The "about these data" for NAM shows contradictory information, such as last updated one day ago, next update now, but it lists the next update expected for a time more than 6 hours in the past.
      Also, the NAM forecast displayed by Windy differs from what I see in XCkies using NAM.
      Also, normally NAM can look ahead more than two days, but right now it cant see more than about 30 hours from now.

      bad NAM

    • Please let us choose the default model

      Windy defaults to ECMWF. That model is wildly wrong in the SW USA desert. NAM is accurate for our location. For years I have endured changing the model to NAM, this is becoming quite tedious. Pleasw allow us to choose the model that is displayed on startup. Thanks!

    • RE: Wind-barbs obviously and dramatically wrong

      @Ftjwinfs as a paraglider pilot, I used to rely on Windy for a quick first order of approximation of surface conditions, before diving in deeper with tools like XC skies.

      Now I'm not even bothering with Windy. It's useless and unusable currently.

      @jmh2002 Sure, I understand that. (I've been a Windy user from the early days) .
      My point was purely informational. MeteoBlue is not accurate for the SW USA. Other models, for example HRRR , might be a better addition to the Big Three (NAM, GFS, ECMWF)

    • RE: At least make the new blinding white menu bar transparent

      @TomSlavkovsky Please understand I'm a loyal, long time user and supporter. I hate to complain about such a great app. But I'm also a designer, and the best thing about Windy is it never, until now, had menus that took up screen real estate. Even 48 pixels is too much, it's bad design. Used to be able to hit the 3-line menu, change models, then hit the x and have most of the screen back. Now hit the three dots on a new menu that offers no additional functionality, switch models, then alllll the way up to the upper left to dismiss settings. .. and horrible, unneeded white bar is still there glaring at me.

      I'll increase my offer for the APK of the previous version to $125, paid in advance via PayPal. I'm not wealthy, ithat is 10% of my weekly paycheck, but it would be worth it to me.

      Thanks!

    • Can't add fully functional Holfuy to Windy

      Hi,

      The Sandia Soaring Association maintains a new, Ultrasonic Holfuy In Albuquerque NM at the top of Sandia Peak:

      https://holfuy.com/en/weather/954

      I tried to add it to Windy using the Add Weather Station feature, but it errored-out.
      Error Message

      Any suggestions? The URL is valid, and I completed all the required fields.

      Sandia Holfuy Fields

      Thanks,

      @stevecrye @Suty
      Still waiting for you to restore the original radar+ functionality.

      Now that it's been moved under satellites, we cannot see the rainfall when we position the aiming point over a spot on the map. Instead it shows us a temperature reading.

      I don't want to know the temperature the cloud tops, I want to know the rainfall that is occurring. The same way it used to work with radar!!!

      Where can I go to get that old functionality back?

    • RE: Radar+ Feature gone

      @Suty

      The change removes the functionality that we used to have. Now it's impossible to see satellite AND get a spot radar reading of precipitation.

      This is because when you're in satellite view, the spot reading shows temperatures of cloud tops (I guess.) If you turn on the radar overlay, it doesn't change the spot reading to show precipitation.

      Bad decision. Bad update.

      @bsu4phd It's typical of the bad decisions that Windy makes lately

      And if you complain, they'll just tell you that the new thing, whatever they did, is "better."

      Arrogant and disrespectful to paying customers.

      I'm using it less and less, and XCskies more and more

    • "First model" background stuck in ECMWF

      Whenever we do a spot forecast, even though we have previously selected HRRR, The background wind plot remains stuck on ECMWF. Super annoying, considering that ECMWF is wildly inaccurate for the Southwest USA.

      Please fix! This behavior was introduced a few updates ago, it was not present in previous years.

      What's particularly maddening is that it's only when you select the Wind option on the forecast feature that it switches the main view back to ECMWF. For the other options, such as Basic, or Meteorological, it retains my preference of HRRR.

      By the way, on the Wind plot for the forecast option, the displayed conditions are still one hour off from the selected time.

      @Suty

      That's a terrible new default behavior. The old versions of the app would correctly display the user's choice.

      Windy needs to realize that ECMWF is NOT a reliable model for the Southwest USA! We never look at it. It's always wrong!

    • Android app keeps reverting to ECMWF by itself

      This bug happens on several different phones on the Android app.

      When one selects the "forecast for this location", and then one switches from Basic to Wind, The "first model" spontaneously changes to ECMWF, and then if one exits the forecast for this location option, the model reverts to ECMWF from whatever you had picked prior to choosing "Forecast for this Location."

      Closely related to the bug is the inability to choose the First Model when Wind is selected in the "Forecast for this Location" option.

      This bug started with the update that gave us the running female as the splash photo on the app starts.

      Below is a sequence of images that shows the problem.

      Super annoying bug really needs to be fixed.

    • RE: "First Model" can no longer be selected when spot location FC is set to Wind; stays locked to ECMWF

      @idefix37

      Thank you for your reply.

      The wind layer model is ECMWF, regardless of what the highlighted selection is.

      The consequence of this bug is that I can no longer rely on the multi model "forecast at this location" to display the wind layer of the first model that I want to select.

      I'm having to tediously select one of the three reliable models ( HRRR NAM, and GFS) from the main menu, then position to crosshairs over the spot I'm interested in and look at the wind reading in the upper left. I I have to repeat this process three times to get a comparison.

      Android is often ignored as a platform when people develop their applications. Not sure why, this is a problem across multiple different applications. This despite the fact that Android has greater market share than iOS.
