    • Cyclone Mocha is heading towards Myanmar and Bangladesh

Update: 14th of May, 9:00 am UTC

Cyclone Mocha has strengthened into a Category 4 storm and is currently nearing the Myanmar coastline for landfall. As an extremely severe system approaches, parts of Myanmar and Bangladesh are already experiencing severe weather.

Maximum winds are 249 km/h. Cyclone will bring strong winds and rain as well as a storm surge to a very exposed area. Preparations are complete to ensure people are as safe as possible.

Update: 13th of May, 9:00 am UTC

Cyclone Mocha is gathering strength at a faster pace than previously anticipated! It will reach the coast during the Sunday and is carrying winds of 159km/h (99mph) upon landfall.

Hundreds of thousands have been ordered to evacuate from coast areas in both countries. Specialists say that this size of storm hasn't been in this are over a decade.

Fortunately, it is expected that the storm will get weaker with the landfall with the coast in the Sunday morning.

    • Help Us Expand Global Lightning Detection with Nowcast

      Dear Windy.com users,

We're excited to support our partner nowcast (https://www.nowcast.de/en/) in expanding the coverage of their global lightning network, that provides real-time data to Windy. So if you are interested in helping Windy and you want to see real time lightnings in your region, then this opportunity is for you. Nowcast is seeking volunteers in specific regions to host sensors, which are crucial for improving lightning detection and safety measures.

Here are the regions where they need your help

      • Northern India or Nepal
      • Mexico, Costa Rica, or Panama
      • Western Pacific, including the Mariana Islands, Guam, and Palau
      • Japan
      • North-western parts of South America (Ecuador, Peru, northern Chile, …)
      • Southern USA (along the Border to Mexico till Florida)

      Site Requirements:

      • Location should be free from significant electrical noise (e.g., distant from transformer stations, large motors, or high-voltage power lines).
      • The site should provide a small area (less than 4 sqm) for the antenna.
      • An elevated, restricted area with a clear, unobstructed horizon at a 25° elevation angle.
      • Ideally, access to power and internet (less than 20W power usage and below 50kbit/s for data).

      Benefits to Hosts:

As a host, you will not be required to install, maintain, or repair the equipment. All installation and maintenance costs will be covered by nowcast. In return, you'll receive either non-commercial access to nowcast's web application, allowing you to monitor thunderstorm activity and receive customizable alerts about lightning activity around your location, or a financial compensation.

Also as mentioned above, by becoming a host, you will also support the integration of enhanced lightning coverage for these regions in the Windy.com, benefiting users worldwide.

We appreciate your involvement and support in this significant project to enhance global safety and weather awareness. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please get in touch with us.

      Thank you for your support!

    • RE: API Trial suitable for home use?

@TerrorBite Hi, our trial version of API is rather for testing purposes for potential customers of the Professional license.

According to the Home version of API, we are not planning this now. However, I could consider with colleagues from the product team.

    • RE: Radar+ Feature gone

To provide further details about this missing layer. Radar+ was something like a step between two phases, since it provided new visualization technology for our RadSat layers. Now both layers (Radar and Satellite) are already displayed this way, so we decided to remove Radar+, because all features are displayed in these two.

    • RE: Widgets

@Rod-Battista Hi there, we are aware of this issue. Can you please switch the units in settings to for example celsius, then refresh the widget and then again to fahrenheit and refresh the widget again? When you change the units in the settings, the settings in the widgets will be synchronized.

    • Android v.39: Widget loading issues

We are aware of technical issues with widgets after the latest update to version 39. Since the update was very comprehensive, we came up with certain steps that should help to get your Windy widgets work again. Basically it is necessary to reset all widgets and these steps contain allowances to all aspects that are necessary for working widgets.

      • Remove all widgets
      • Open windy application settings
      • Allow Notifications
      • Go to Permissions - enable location (Allow all the time)
      • Go to Battery - allow unrestricted battery usage
      • Add new widgets

If, after all these steps, you still have issue with loading widgets in version 39, please try to reinstall the app and check the latest updates, since we still work on fixes that could help to prevent these problems. Thank you for patience.
