    • Windy webcams updates, changes and quality of life improvements.

Recently windy webcams just had its biggest updates changes out of the blue on Thursday 13th of November at 12:00pm UTC time. Best update yet since the integration between webcams.travel and lookr.com back in December 2019 into the larger Windy.com platform where both websites redirect the link to the Windy.com/webcams page.

List of changes and bug fixes:

All webcam upload interval times are now back to 10 minutes under the new system (formerly webcams.travel and lookr.com upload interval times). Previous it was 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 1 hour since December 2019 when webcams.travel and lookr.com merge all projects into Windy.com/webcams page.

The last 24 hours ago timelapse slideshows caps at 25 images rather than the last 24 hours (if the image is more than 2 days ago, it will not load) under the new system.

The last 30 days ago timelapse slideshows has not changed but now caps at recent 35 days (tbc) under the new system.

The last 12 months ago timelapse slideshows has not changed but now shows the recent 16 months (tbc) under the new system.

The Lifetime timelapse slideshows had a major changed, previous it was every 3 months window from the old webcams.travel and lookr.com, now under the new system, it’s now every month. The lifetime new system currently only shows all available images upload back to as far as March 2023 while the former old webcams.travel and lookr.com shows all available images upload back to as far as February 2014 when webcams.travel and lookr.com added the last 30 days, 12 months and lifetime back in mid 2013. Currently you can no longer view the former Lifetime timelapse slideshows old system which dates back to as far as February 2014. More available archive images under the new system before March 2023 maybe added in the future.

The filter by category options under all webcams has also changed.

Fixed the bug where nighttime webcams were not uploading to windy while the domain stream (m3u8) link and images link (including text link) are still online normally which occurred since Friday 18th of February 2022.

Removed repeated names views on windy webcam title. The repeated view names will be merged to just the one name.

End of support to the YouTube domain webcams, users will need to find an alternative domain to keep their webcams online on Windy. I’m not sure when YouTube domain webcams will be available again to Windy but most likely it won’t happen again in the future until further notice.

    • RE: YouTube Webcam update and some other updates:

Update for all Windy webcams as you will only see the latest imagine only for now for the time being, you won’t be able to see any achieve imagines at all showing the last 24 hours, 30 days, 12 months and lifetime as they have temporarily been removed (including on embed player mode). The achieve imagines showing the last 24 hours, 30 days, 12 months and lifetime should be restored as soon as possible the way it normally showed before. The team could possibly be working into some new features in the background for the Windy webcams, that’s my suggestion and thought of that possibility the reason.

Current webcam interval/fresh time as of 1st October 2023:
15 minutes interval: 18 minutes average
30 minutes interval: 33 minutes average
1 hour interval: 63 minutes average.

      @pvl-0

Last 24 hours snap history on windy webcams and on windy embed player has just been fixed approximately around 15 - 30 minutes (after 8am UTC time) and should be able to see the last 24 hours snaps again on both the app and browsers.

    • YouTube Webcam update and some other updates:

Any YouTube Webcams issues has been fixed. But some uploads may still be skipped, I believe mostly if the image size for YouTube Webcam is very large (higher than the max resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels) and is unable to download the data quick enough.

      Webcam upload interval update:

The interval upload time has slightly increase a bit after the YouTube fix:
Current interval upload times as of August 18 2023:

      15 minutes interval: 25 - 30 minutes average.
      30 minutes interval: 40 - 45 minutes average.
      1 hour interval: 1 hour and 10 minutes (1:10) - 1 hour and 15 minutes (1:15) average.

55+ minutes as a timelapse slider still applies so any next images that are within 55 minute mark since the last/latest archive imagine will not be added into timelapse slider unless it’s a daylight snapshot. Only 1 daily snapshot imagine per day from February 23rd 2022 at approximately 12:00pm UTC time onwards.

Any YouTube Webcams is up and running again and after I've looked through much of the windy webcams, it seems that the upload times are more consistent now and not skipping some uploads like previously since for more than a year for some YouTube webcams. Some uploads can still be skipped but less likely like before.

You should receive an email address confirmation on approval from Windy.com (in the language of Czech Republic). Usually it takes around a few days after you’ve submit it but sometimes as early as 20 minutes or as far as 2-4 weeks depending on the submission queue of other windy users globally for windy colleges to check though the submission queue during the windy colleges availability times. If no update 2 weeks after submission then you can continue the topic/threads on windy community and the windy admins will be able to assist you and will forward it to the windy colleges.

Your webcam has just been updated by the college via me using the add new webcam for purpose to update the already existing webcam and allow the colleges to find the best image URL possible somewhere since submit to update the image URL on an already existing webcam would take up to 2 months to apply the changes. Your webcam should now update every hour or so. Let’s see how long it will last for.

The windy admins have change your webcam upload time from every 1 hour to every 15 minutes. However the 1 hour of last 24 hours archive between previous and next snaps slideshows will still apply. If you have other webcams or any webcam that you would like to change the webcam upload time from every 1 hour to every 15 minutes, the admins would be happy to change the settings. The admins will keep in touch with you with the current webcam.

We’re slowly getting many of these Asia and Oceania webcams approved with authorization/postfix links after the image URL link ? mark but the queue of the same domain can’t be after each other so I’d just throw away a few submit in between that would 100% be rejected before submitting that same domain again. When the night image is completely black or authorization/postfix unapproved by specific rules, it won’t be processed or cannot load results in rejected, or some reason the image/video URL is online but cannot be processed results in rejected which has now been fixed about 1 or 2 months ago.

    • RE: Windy webcams submission form updates and how long will it take to be checked.

There is some slight quiet recent changes on how newly webcam submissions for approval that meets the requirements will apply for approval and how it will effect already approved of those webcam before November 2024 from December 2019 as of Windy or from 2007 as of webcams.travel, webcam must now show enough of the surrounding sky to be approved regardless of surrounding space availability. And not-to-date webcam images are now approved if users believe that the image URL link (can only load an latest available image only except for complete black or white image which will not be processed) will be updated again soon or in future. Any newly webcam submissions of that type view that does not show enough of surrounding skies will no longer be approved manually except for exception reasons.

More of my opinion information will be posted within a few days or weeks.

    • Windy webcams submission form updates and how long will it take to be checked.

Most webcam assessments check are approximately around 50 pending webcam daily depending on number of request during this time, usually around between 200 - 300 back then before May 2024 during their limit availability times.

For webcam to be approved it’s view must show:

      • Both night and daylight images must show enough of what the weather looks like to be approved. First check during night are more likely to be rejected especially with night vision being switched on or the light nearby is on which shows the lack of the surrounding landscape/space, but a rare case they will delay the approval until the daylight hours is being checked however first check are more likely to be approved during daylight hours without nights being checked. Unfortunately tree blocking or other stuff blocking the view of what the weather looks like will not be approved.

      Image cannot be loaded:

      • If the first check shows image cannot be loaded or offline during the time it’s being first checked, it will be manually review and rejected immediately in which required first check to be at different times for approval. It must be re-submitted it again. Some webcam that are offline during that time nightly hours when the college checks the webcam at the same time for 1 hour daily are locked out of being approved and resubmitting the same webcam over again will still be rejected.

      Number of views:

      • Adding different languages view with same names views will most likely be translated to English rather than the language view you added after the webcam approval and will result in a repeated name view and often duplicate view are removed or merged.

      Quality or image size:

      • In a rare case if the webcam view size is too small or not sufficient sometimes due to privacy reason which shows the lack of the weather conditions, it may be rejected however it’s most often approved. In which case the 2nd time will be approved.

Using the add new webcam form to update an already existing webcam:

      • In which case if a webcam on windy does requires image URL update due to the link being changed (sometimes few times a week), updating using the already existing webcam edit settings will take over a month or two to be approved or rejected while using the added new webcam form will take within 2 days to update an already existing webcam, you will still receive a rejection saying that it’s already been submitted but it will update an already existing webcam. However too many webcam submissions (like over 40+ webcam) will delay their time of approval of other users which is the problem depending on the colleges availability times. Unfortunately close up street/traffic roads, just sky without land, rotating cameras and too many webcam in a small radius area will not be affected and will be approved as new instead as the view must show both land and sky to update as you must update the already existing webcam by going to edit settings.

      Webcams removal and disabled/deactivated:

      • Between mid 2022 until late 2023 or early 2024, most webcam has been automatically disabled/deactivated due to not enough landscape/space, indoors, advertising or inactive (blank picture), currently at this time, it can only be disabled/deactivated requested by users except for not up-to-date YouTube domains due to the streaming being offline for longer period of time and the image URL link redirect just shows list of archived live videos when offline.

Changing the upload interval times to 15 minutes permanent by request?:

      • It is no longer possible to change upload interval times to 15 minutes anymore. Previously back in December 2019 onwards, most newly webcam added are 1 hour upload interval by default however the settings can be changed to 15 minutes permanent by former windy admin Korina for most webcam between 2020 - 2022 by request from users to make it fair and reduce last 30 days, 12 months and lifetime snapshots being skipped. During this time after late 2022, it is no longer possible but maybe in future.

Anyways I will continue to monitor my email of the colleges availability times and other webcam activity stuff and may keep up-to-date with some changes. Will update or edit the topic if there is some changes and hope for the close and accurate answers as possible.

Updates to much of the Australian, Papua New Guinea, Burnt Pine, Lord Howe Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and some of New Zealand webcams:

Many webcams have been rearranged (location and image URL changed), or permanently disabled/deleted recently. The same thing also happened in November 2022. Back in April 2021 almost 50% of the webcams on windy were permanently disabled/deleted and also losing the 15 minutes upload interval, new ones that were disabled/deleted back in April 2021 were readded to windy again in September 2021. The changes were all reverted 24 hours later after that. Disabled/deleted webcam on windy are not restored and new ones must be submitted to windy.

The cause is the result of the page domain https://myairportcams.com webcam map being changed which affects current webcams on windy image URL link associated with the webcam map.

Hi, after analyzing what can be done, it looks like the domain https://www.ipcamlive.com/ does not allow your webcam to be shared or process into other sites/domain including to Windy. Your video streaming service type for https://www.ipcamlive.com/ I think is basic.

You will required a video streaming subscription fee for https://www.ipcamlive.com/ to allow your webcam to be shared into other sites/domain including to windy. If you can upgrade the video streaming service type to standard, your webcam should be online on Windy again without needing to update the image URL on windy. Subscription fees for ipcamlive here https://www.ipcamlive.com/pricing.

Your lifetime snaps on Windy is on the 17th of February, May, August and November. Your next lifetime snaps is this Saturday so I strongly encourage you to upgrade the video streaming service type to standard as soon as possible before late morning on Saturday in your local time.

      Cheers,

      Thuan.

If you have other webcams or any webcam that you would like to change the webcam upload time from every 1 hour to every 15 minutes, the admins would be happy to change the settings. The admins will keep in touch with you with the current webcam.
