    • Double radar echoes in eastern Norway/western Sweden

I have noticed over the past 1-2 months that the weather radar renders double echoes in a pretty big area in eastern Norway/western Sweden. They are not exact copies of each other, but very similar in shape and size. It appears to be a relatively consistent distance of 15 km between the similar points, and at a relative bearing of approximately 70°/250°.
I see this phenomenon regardless of browser or OS used, and only in the mentioned area. West coast of Norway and further east in Sweden is fine.

@Korina I’m happy to report that the twins have disappeared and that the radar image is displayed correctly now. Thanks!

@korina There is no doubt that the duplication occurs. My screenshot is not from the rainiest of days, but you can still clearly see the duplicate echoes. I’m on my phone now, so it doesn’t allow me to upload photos, but I have highlighted some of the “identical” parts for you.

As I was checking now however, there was a temporary fallout of one of the radar sources, and that made the duplicates to disappear. I compared it to the raw data, and the fallout was identical, but there is still no duplication there when that specific radar came back online.

This makes me think that there is some sort of offset on one of the radars in your system making the overlap of the different sources erroneous.

@idefix37 That’s kind of the opposite of what I was trying to say, but maybe it was awkwardly formulated. The duplication is not present in the raw data, but in the windy app. The pulsating fake echoes are present both places.

      Hi,

I found this site that reference radar data from the Norwegian Met. Institute, and the pulsating fake echoes are actually there. BUT - it seems as if the duplication lies somewhere else. The resolution is not very good, but at the centre of this area (around Røyken), there is a single high intensity blob on this map, but there are two of them in your map at the same time.

And since I found out the png thing; here is the original screenshot I wanted to post. You can recognize the fake echoes from previous images, but also some duplicated cells to the north and east.

Ok, picky forum. Didn't want png files. But here we go:

Well, to be fair, your screenshot shows central Norway, and the problem lies in the south eastern part, around Oslo.

There was supposed to be an image attached to my post, but apparently it hasn’t been uploaded. There is no rain in the are now, BUT - there are also pulsating false echoes in the same region, and these share the duplicate behaviour previously mentioned.

Attaching two screenshots 6 min apart. You can see the duplicating pattern and also the pulsating strength of the echo. Even though it’s windy now, the echoes don’t move (and they’re always like this nowadays).

Screenshots will come in a separate post. Can’t get it to work on my phone.
