    • Customizing Color Scales not working

I was trying to fix the color scales in the latest update and just found out the import and export type log wasn't working, I couldn't add or remove anything from there. It used to work before and without this feature working, I would have 100x harder work to get the layers I want. I do sometimes change color schemes for different context, but when I am unable to do that, it just stirs up the entire system. I hope it's just a bug that came from the new update and that it can be fixed.

    • RE: Addition of the ACCESS model

As of today, March 25th, 2022. ACCESS model has been added to windy and it's only the local model that was added, the global model wasn't added. Feel free to enjoy looking on the new model and it extends off 10 days.

    • RE: Customizing Color Scales not working

@marko-rogan I have still noticed minor bugs. While the custom colors do appear when opening Windy for Temp or Wind, while the custom map opens, the temperature plots and the bottom legend still show default.
      4f945c9f-82f7-426c-89d7-28dd72198676-image.png

If you want to fix this issue, here are steps:

      1. Go to Menu,
      2. Press Settings,
      3. Then scroll down to Custom color scale
      4. When you are in temp custom page, scroll down and press Add new line once without doing anything else
      5. After that, it should be fixed. You will have to do this every time you launch the app.

Despite some lingering, it's a whole lot better then when Version 45 first came out. Repairs aren't urgent, they can wait until when the next version launches, I can adapt to errors for now. Windy is my favorite go to app.

    • RE: Total precipitable water

This is a great suggestion. I know it can bring valuable use to windy. This layer can basically use the entire atmospheric column and then imagine if all that air condenses, that would be how much rain it could fall down. This also can be used for determining if it's a tropical rainstorm or a more temperate/wintry storm.

    • RE: Why does Drought information differ from USDA drought monitor?

Windy currently uses CzechGlobe 9km model for it's drought monitor, which is an European based model. The USDA drought monitor uses a different modeling, though it only updates weekly as opposed to daily for the CzechGlobe model and also focuses on long term changes over short term changes as well as only one depth. The CzechGlobe model also measures two depths, and three parameters, Drought Intensity, Moisture Anomaly, and Soil Moisture, which can provide a more comprehensive scope of the drought. Of course every model and region has limitations, maybe Windy could introduce the USDA model in the future, though I don't really see a reason why windy needs the USDA monitor, it isn't extremely important, and also one could just go to it's website to find more.

It's not a bad idea. This model is very accurate and also if this model is to come out, the global ACCESS-G model should also be added as well.

    • RE: Windy acquires majority stake in Meteoblue - What to expect?

@anthony10 I think you seem very interested in windy seeing a massive overhaul. I just received a new overlay today, Radar+, which includes satellite and radar all in one, this is one of the things you wanted, windy has it. The heatmaps were also added about a week ago. Also, your ideas are really ambitious and creative. It would likely take months if not years for Windy to receive more of the Meteoblue content, and also not all things would be on Windy anyways.
      1e953fdc-53ab-4a68-8d62-941b3ba84b40-image.png

The only one thing I would like Windy to keep is the customized color scales for overlays, even if you may have to put it to premium in the future, I would like this feature to always remain and never removed. If the custom color scales were to be removed, windy would lose a lot of it's active users and things would go downhill and be challenging to maintain. Anyways, the future looks bright, though don't expect all of the changes you outlined to be coming in the next several weeks.

    • RE: Changing the weather radar reflectivity color palette

I would like to have this feature available in Windy for radar mode. It is a benefit that we can customize color palettes for overlays for Windy. Every other website doesn't have this option. I know that the radar is left out sadly. Windy, please add the overlay color palette option for Radar. I am totally with you in your proposal.

    • RE: Add NOAA RRFS

I have heard that the NWS has recently issued a statement that they will be retiring the NAM set of models on August 31st of this year. This means that the NAM 3km currently on Windy will no longer operate past this date. The NWS will replace this model with RRFS, which is moving out of experimental phase from that date onward. There could be a good chance that Windy considers adding this model in the coming months, though it's up to the Windy team to decide on this change. I think it is was worth noting ahead of time on this. The HRRR model will continue to be operational for at least a few years if not longer.

    • RE: CO2 map

A CO2 map in addition to CO concentration sounds like a good idea. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas driving climate change and the last several decades has seen global CO2 skyrocket and it's only going to increase unless we stop emitting more then we capture. It would be good to have this layer as a possible future update, though it isn't something very urgent and it's not something that changes day by day in significant amounts.

@hangInThere I understand your concerns. I hope too windy addresses this quickly. I did came up with a temporarily fix for my end, and that was me pasting in my own color scheme in though my Windy app still running version 44. I could now use my color scheme on the web, though I notice that the color scheme no longer matches with observation. I have an image here.

      6affa2d6-2348-4a77-927c-fd59175d69ad-image.png

Fun Fact: I have used this color scheme for 6 years with minor fixes and adjustments though the years and made this home for me. I want to continue to use it for at least another 6+ years if possible. Anyways, let's weather this bug and we will come back stronger and better then before.

Also another error I just detected. Dew Point is no longer able to customize color with, which was something that only was added less then 6 months ago. Now Dew point colors are synced with the temperature and when I can't change any color scales by the import/export, It's stuck with the default temperature scale.

    • Proposed Improvements to Alerts

Hi Windy. I have a few proposals to make the alerts feature more robust:

      1. For the temperature alerts, as of now, it can't be set for any lower threshold below -20°C. Could you look into allowing a lower threshold for issuing extreme cold, especially for users that live in extremely cold environments or are very acclimated or resilient to extreme cold conditions.

      47becd54-3aca-4176-8167-3ccf4016740c-image.png

      1. For precipitation alerts, could you all look into adding the one hour option, as well as also being able to set alert thresholds that go up over 100mm. This would be especially helpful for those living in tropical, equatorial, and monsoonal climates, while also helpful for convective summer thunderstorms. Also, another idea could be to put multi-tier warnings, like 50mm in 1 hour, 70mm in 3 hours, and 100mm in 6 hours for the same alert?

      df980066-5d49-4df5-a661-d09859c7e4a0-image.png

      1. For snow alerts, could you also do something similar to precipitation alerts, with more customizable features, and also include possibility for also adding 72 and 120 hour options along with one hour option like I said earlier for rain?

      8b7ccae3-3934-4b4f-827d-a1e4e412815f-image.png

      1. In addition to these proposed improvements I said, It would be a great idea to also include alerts for other parameters, such as relative humidity, dew points, wet bulb, wind chill/prescribed temp (if you decide to implement it in the future), fog, thunderstorm intensity, fire weather, air quality, and more.

      2. Another idea, how about making alerts that require more then one layers to come together, such as freezing fog (30°C with dew point of >16°C), and such. These more advanced or customized alerts features could be a part of premium while keeping basic alert creations free.

Any thoughts to these improvements I have proposed? Out of all these proposed changes, I think the most important right now would be lowering the extreme cold alert threshold.

    • RE: How to read Meteogram

@Thierry04 In terms for the color code for temps, the default one windy uses does not mean the average temp, but one scale used as a global average. We can change the temperature colors on the windy map. There's one scale I enjoy using and have used it for 5 years now. If you want to change your temperature colors, you could go on Windy, then press on the top right corner where it says "menu", then press settings, it's on the left of where it has 8 different things, then after that, scroll down to where it says "customize color scale", then after that, you should be able to change the scale to the desires you wish to have it on.
