@Suty I sent an email with my recommendations. Neither the 2 cameras that I reported nor my email appears to have been acknowledged. As people start looking for accurate information and local conditions for the approaching winter storm, they won't be able to find it with the Windy webcam layer in Georgia. They'll be looking at sunshine and palm trees when the roads are actually covered in ice or snow.

Yikes - nearly all of the Georgia GDOT cameras in massively wrong locations
All of a sudden... Sun December 22nd 2024, nearly all of the GDOT camera images are for massively wrong locations and some of the cameras that used to be here in town are gone. I submitted a couple of them after figuring out where they were supposed to be. I don't know what caused this mess but it looks like the camera pins are in locations where there would be a camera but the images are for locations that are on the other end of the state.
This does appear to be isolated to GDOT cameras as mine and another individual user's cameras are right where they're supposed to be and no issues. -
DOT traffic cams
In the last 24 hours, someone has flooded the US state of GA with DOT traffic cameras on the webcams layer. While it can be helpful to see traffic conditions, most of these are very low quality images, often the cameras are not in service and it's just of some intersection or highway somewhere. It has negatively impacted the usability of the Windy website and app by drowning out the higher quality images that show actual weather.
In my opinion, the DOT cameras, whether they are in Georgia or not should not be shown. There's thousands of them and it makes it hard to see the sort of quality images that people want to see. If people want to see traffic conditions they can go to the DOT website.

RE: Windy launches Radar+ layer combining Satellite and Radar view
Windy dares to go where no weather app has ever gone before.

RE: Yikes - nearly all of the Georgia GDOT cameras in massively wrong locations
Lets be frank. The vast majority of the GDOT cameras are pointed down at roads. Is that the sort of imagery that is of value to Windy users? I would make the case that it isn't. And it's cluttering up the map with low quality irrelevant images that are intended for traffic conditions rather than weather conditions.

RE: Yikes - nearly all of the Georgia GDOT cameras in massively wrong locations
So I guess the idea is to make it 4 times worse.
There's now 4 times as many DOT traffic cameras that are hundreds of miles out of place.
Who is responsible for this? -

@andybluebug said in Yikes - nearly all of the Georgia GDOT cameras in massively wrong locations:
@winniw10 I am also still seeing this issue with the GDOT webcams. I sent an email to webcams@windy.com and hope for a quick resolution.
@andybluebug Were both still waiting, aren't we? I guess nobody cares.

RE: Utah DOT Webcams add from KML file from UDOT server
@Andrew-Cordes I run PTZ cameras so I think it's reasonable to excuse the brief periods where a DOT camera might be zoomed into an accident scene or something like that. My weather cameras are not just for weather, they are also to monitor fires and some days, they're zoomed into that. But when the vast majority of cameras are just planted on a road or are very low quality fixed lens cameras, that shouldn't be posted on Windy.
Now then, you say it all comes from some bulk list. Well, clearly a bulk list isn't the right way to do it. I wouldn't mind a DOT camera if it looked anything like yours you just showed.
They don't show the sky, but why would they need to for their intended purpose, which is to show traffic conditions. The answer is to be selective about what is on Windy so the platform isn't cluttered up with garbage that nobody wants to see that is of no value to users.
And yes, that means going through them all one by one. -
RE: Utah DOT Webcams add from KML file from UDOT server
Just a little friendly feedback about that idea. Someone did what you're proposing here in Georgia, cluttered up the map with hundreds of traffic cameras pointing down at the road or some highway, not showing anything to do with the weather and so if someone is actually wanting to look at actual weather conditions, they end up having to sift through many, many, traffic cameras. Nothing wrong with wanting to see the traffic or road conditions but those sorts of cameras are not the same thing as weather cameras. I don't go to the DOT website to view the weather map and I don't go to Windy to see what the traffic is like. You might instead look to see if there are any tv stations that have web cams. Those tend to nearly always be high quality. So, please, please reconsider adding traffic cameras in bulk.

RE: Incorrect Webcam Locations
@wjg875 I reported this but so far my only response was the same one you just got. I don't know who flooded the platform with those DOT cameras several years ago but they are not only currently all jumbled up in the wrong locations, they also don't comply with the submission guidelines for webcams on Windy. Windy is for weather conditions, not for traffic conditions.
