    • RE: No data for Rome, Italy

@Suty For those wondering why Italian radars stopped working, the Italian Civil Protection has places an announcement under the radar embeed here:
      https://mappe.protezionecivile.gov.it/it/mappe-e-dashboard-rischi/piattaforma-radar/

"An ongoing project to modernize the national weather radar network is currently underway as part of the PNRR M2C4I1.1 investment, “Creation of an advanced and integrated monitoring and forecasting system,” which will be completed in June 2026. During this period, the radar equipment undergoing maintenance will be unavailable. In some areas of Italy, observation capabilities will therefore be reduced until the implementation is complete. "

And according to this news article from the Meteo section of IlMessagero published on the 16th: https://meteo.ilmessaggero.it/news/avviso-manutenzione-radar-meteorologici-in-corso-748184/

"The Civil Protection is carrying out maintenance work on the weather radar network, with possible lack of coverage in the next 4-5 weeks, in particular on Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Molise, Umbria, Marche and lower Tuscany regions. During this time and in the aforementioned areas, the radar and rain services may therefore not function properly. We will update you as soon as the signal is restored."

So I would guess the radars data will be restored mid October.

      IN ITALIANO:

Per chi si sta chiedendo perché i radar italiani hanno smesso di funzionare, la Protezione Civile ha pubblicato un annuncio qui:
      https://mappe.protezionecivile.gov.it/it/mappe-e-dashboard-rischi/piattaforma-radar/

    • RE: Radar outage in Indonesia

It has been some time since my last update, inasiam.bmkg.go.id has recently been updated, and radar data is no longer publicly accessible without authentication.

@filip_k At this point, and if feasible, it may be worth exploring the implementation of individual radar data sources, beginning with those mentioned in the comments above.

    • RE: Gulf of America needs updated

@Benjamin-Conner-2 Google actually shows different map labels depending on the country you're accessing it from. Outside the US, it still shows "Gulf of Mexico". It's the same concept as “Sea of Japan / East Sea” and many other disputed or politically sensitive areas.

Windy provides a single global map view to everyone, so disputed areas or names will inevitably be shown one way or another.

Google is a US company, so it will naturally tend to follow US government naming conventions, at least for US users having the technical capability to show different map labels depending on the country. Windy is not a US company and doesn't have such capability and is under no obligation to adopt a single country's naming policy globally.

    • RE: Why do I have to manually drag the radar bar?

@idefix37 I get that some users don't want extrapolated radar and consider it misleading. That's fair.

However, changing the default behavior for everyone because a subset of users disliked it creates the opposite problem: another subset now dislikes it.

This seems like a classic case where an option or toggle would be the best solution instead of removing convenience entirely. That way, users who don't want the pseudo-forecast can turn it off, while others don't.

We're seeing the same situation with the new radar icons (snow, hail, etc..). Personalization solves these conflicts far better than forcing one preference on all users, especially when the same discussions keep popping up every day... By the way, I actually find such feature pretty cool, though I can also see myself disabling it at times for better readability, which is exactly why having the choice matters.

@Paulo-Mendes-RibeiroJr. Those circles represent the range of a weather radar station, basically how far it can "see". Within the circle, the radar can detect precipitation like rain, hail, or snow, outside of it, coverage becomes unavailable.

Also if you know of other way to get the data, it might be very useful.

I did a rapid search, I found some alternative sources:

Update: The radar in Monte Serano, Umbria Region, returned to operational status today at 19:00 local time (17:00Z). It now covers central Italy, but it is still unclear whether it will remain operational or might go offline again.
